Probably won't happen but this is pretty scary.

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic -- Albert Pujols is encouraging the St. Louis Cardinals to sign Manny Ramirez.

The Cardinals slugger, who won his second NL MVP award in November, acknowledged the team might not have enough money to land the free-agent outfielder.

"I speak with Manny every three days and he tells me, 'Man, no one wants to sign me,'" Pujols said Thursday during a news conference. "I'm not an agent or general manager, but I can't understand how Manny has not signed."

Pujols passed along Ramirez's telephone number to St. Louis manager Tony La Russa.

"Maybe St. Louis doesn't have the money to sign him, but he could give them a discount because St. Louis is a great city that supports its players," Pujols said

Love the last line.

This only cements my belief that Albert Pujols' IQ is like 85 or less. It's a shame, helluva ballplayer, but one dumb ass.

what if i told you that it was pujols' idea to get khalil greene?

When asked by Bill Shaikin if the Cardinals are interested in Ramirez, GM John Mozeliak said, "The answer is no."

/thread

But maybe he'll take a discount because St. Louis is such a great sports city that doesn't sell out Rams games.

i think what he said really has nothing to do with his intelligence level

pretty funny stuff if you ask me

plus, he gave a very kind nod to the organization and city that takes care of his direct income

I'm sure every team has a player on their roster who would like their GM to sign Manny.

The Boston Red Sox?

David Ortiz.

he reportedly was a part of the group that wanted Manny out

really? never heard that. where did you read that?

Don't recall exactly, but it was reported at the time that Ortiz actually was in the group that talked to management about their problems with Manny. They supposedly voted or something, and he agreed Manny needed to go.

But Boras said that the market for Ramirez has started to take shape in the last week and that he has started to negotiate with other teams on behalf of his client.

“The train has left the station,” Boras said.

_______________

Seems to me that Boras may want to tell Manny to keep his mouth shut if he wants a contract.

I wonder what last season would have been like if the Cubs had landed Manny for the 2nd half of the year when he was happy - cause we all know that a happy Manny is a productive Manny - and vice versa, an unhappy Manny is a team cancer.

7:40pm: According to Tony Jackson of the Los Angeles Daily News, the Dodgers have made another offer to Manny Ramirez. This time it's a one-year deal worth $25MM.

Seriously? Seriously? I hope to GOD he takes them up on the offer, and I hope to GOD they get stuck with the 2008 Red Sox Manny who does what he wants, when he wants if he wants to.

They could easily spend that money better. Get Dunn, Sheets, and Wolf for probably the $25M they offered to Manny.

That's not better. Or even close. Dunn isn't better than Manny, Sheets may not be able to pitch next year and they might have five starters better than Wolf right not.
