I wish football players would stop talking out of place. He has a point to a degree, but that doesn't give Driver the right to talk about players on another team. The Bears WR are not his teammates, and he doesn't know them personally, so he really needs to save the critic for his team. In the words of a segment on "Mike & Mike", Driver should "Shut the hell up."

How does he not have the right to talk about players on another team? And why the heck does he have to know the guys personally to have an opinion on their skills?

Quoting Mike and Mike doesn't help your cause.

Quoting Mike and Mike doesn't help your cause.

First: He doesn't know guys like Iglesias, Knox, or Kinder. Not to mention I'm pretty sure when the Bears and Packers play, he doesn't chat with guys like Hester, Davis, or even Rideau. Which means he is only basing his comments on what he sees and not on actually information. Not to mention there is a better then 50% chance that the Bears WR core could make a big step forward in their development now that the Bears have a legit QB. So why would Driver want to give these WR players bulletin board material, is beyond. Because I don't see Harris and Woodson shutting down the Bears WR this yr like they did last yr.

Second: I like "Mike and Mike." And I wasn't quoting anything they said, just a segment they would run periodically that is call "Shut the hell up." And Driver definately would not to "Shut the hell up."

So you have to have conversations with receivers before you can talk about their abilities?

All I'm saying that Driver should worry about his damn team, instead of commenting on another team's players.

That's pretty unlike Driver to say something like that.

He was generally very complimentary of the team and simply said what many are thinking about the Bears receiving corps.

I tend to believe those concerns about the WRs will be answered because I tend to think it has a lot more to do with the QB, but that doesn't mean there was anything wrong with what Driver said.

Yeah, I just heard the comments on NFL Live (terrible show btw). I think he was pretty accurate in his assessment. He basically just said that the WR's the Bears have are unproven and that every other position on offense grades out as a positive to the team.

It's not like Driver just decided to spout off about the Bears and their receivers. He was asked a question about what he thought of their receivers and he responded to it. I don't really think it's bulletin-board material at all but I can see how it'd be used as such.

Yeah, it doesn't really take a lot.

i think driver is just parroting what he has heard. i really don't think he knows what the bears have and it's a common perception that the bears' receivers are awful. i am optimistic about the group, but i pay attention to them, driver probably hasn't and won't until he starts to prepare for game 1, and still, he won't have to prepare for the bears' receivers.

i'd like to see him smacked around a little.

Everyone's already thinking that the Bears don't have a good receiver group. I guess it's just because Driver said it that it becomes out of bounds.

Overall his comments didn't seem all that inflammatory.

Probably the ones that played last year, yeah. I don't know if he knows all the rookies.

I heard the actually statement made by Driver, and no it wasn't inflammatory, but again the Bears buisness is of no concern to Donald Driver. Maybe he should help find ways to improve the Packers who went 6-10 last yr instead of giving opinion about a rival. Just a thought...

Yes, instead of answering the question he was asked, he should've said, "You know what, I can't answer that. Right now, I'm too busy finding ways to improve the Packers who went 6-10 last year to waste two minutes giving an opinion about a rival."

Just call it a pet peeve of mine, okay.

John Clayton on ESPN said it would be a "smart" move on the Bears to pursue Plaxico Burress. He said the Bears prolly won't pursue Plaxico, but he said it would be smart for the Bears to move on Plax. He also said that Donald Driver's statment was "not smart", because it is the kind of statement that would/could spur the Bears into moving on Plaxico or any WR that could improve the Bears WR depth.

Posted
The Bears aren't going to make a move like that simply because Donald [expletive] Driver said some things.

Plus, they were interested in Burress long before today, so.

Again, Clayton said he doesn't expect the Bears to sign Plaxico, but he thinks it would be a good deal for the Bears.

And I agree with you that the Bears won't sign a guy just because a player on another team criticized the percieved weakness of the Bears.

OMG, this is the stupidest 'controversey' since the one that used to post on this board.

(actually I'm just kidding. She wasn't stupid. I just thought it sounded funny in my head.)

And rookie WR's outside of the first round typically do nothing of any substance. So he doesn't really need to know anything about them.

I welcome any and all potential bulletin board material from a division rival directed at a unit as unproven as the WR corps is this season. Hopefully they step up and don't fold under the scrutiny.

Also, hawkeye, Eddie Royal was drafted outside the first round and had a big rookie year. Hopefully Cutler can replicate some of that success with Iglesias or Knox 8-)

yeah bit part of that was having Brandon Marshall to take some\most of the focus off of him

I'm surprised that quote is causing this much discussion to be honest. I just thought it was bulletin board material...that's all.
