Man, if Angelo doesn't make a serious run and/or acquire Jay Cutler, then he might as well resign from his GM role and leave Chicago as the Bears fans and the media will roast him alive. So with that said, I think I see the lynch mob already forming in Chicago.

Cutler has already made it known the Chicago Bears aare his favorite team, and he would be the local boy return home to play for his "dream" team. Having been born, in all places, Santa Claus, Indiana, getting Cutler would be a great early/late Christmas present for the Bears fans from Angelo.

I'm thinking Orton, this year's 1st, and next year's 1st might be enough. I can't think of any reason not to give up whatever the Broncos reasonably request for Cutler.

Just a guess here.

Teams definitely NOT interested: NE, IND, PIT, SD, KC, DAL, NYG, NO, ARZ, ATL,

Teams probably NOT interested: HOU, TEN, BAL, PHI, GB

Mildly interested: BUF, MIA, CIN, OAK, WAS, MIN, STL

Definitely interested: NYJ, JAC, CLE, CHI, DET, TB, SEA, CAR, SF

I don't think any of the teams "definitely interested" have the great talent to trade, unless Carolina wants to trade D'Angelo Williams. SF isn't trading Willis. Denver probably won't be interested in WRs like Braylon, Bryant.

Edit: supposedly the Jets, Bucs, Bears, 49ers, Lions, Browns and Jags have already shown interest.

Cleveland: could offer up Quinn or Anderson as a replacement for Cutler, which would probably be enticing.

Detroit: could offer the #1 overall + players, which would allow Denver to pick Stafford. If they aren't willing to offer the #1 overall I think it hurts their chances considerably.

I highly doubt that. Some in the media have already gone on record saying they don't want that crybaby/quitter on the team. I'm sure there's a significant portion of the fan base that doesn't have any interest in "some primadona QB".

Which is hilarious. Some caller on the Score this morning compared Cutler to Jeff George...but come on...this is one team that he's had an issue with...not like 8.

The Bears have reportedly made signing OT Orlando Pace a priority and plan to leave him at left tackle if he's signed.

In that scenario, 2008 first-rounder Chris Williams will be shifted to the right side with newly signed Kevin Shaffer becoming an $8 million swingman. It would also push Frank Omiyale into a guard spot and allow the Bears to concentrate on wide receiver and defense with their early-round draft picks.

The Bears are believed to "want in" on the Jay Cutler trade talks.

Cutler could be the best Bears quarterback since Sid Luckman's run in the 1940s, but it's hard to believe the Jerry Angelo/Lovie Smith tag-team would be bold enough to pull the trigger. Quarterback myopia has been a trademark under their watch.

And to be honest, I don't blame Cutler. Sure he is being a baby, but the team tried to replace him w/ a less proven player who is getting paid over $16M, and under contract for just the 2009 season. Its a slap in the face for your team to think a year older Cassel, with 1 year just on par w/ all 3 of Cutler's, is a better QB especially considering you will have to pay Cassel more money.

I'd keep Williams on the left side. Pace at this point is the perfect RT.

By Vaughn McClure | Tribune reporter

April 1, 2009

The Bears have made signing Orlando Pace a priority and intend to leave him at left tackle if he joins the team, according to an NFL source.

Pace, who played 12 seasons with the St. Louis Rams before becoming a salary-cap casualty last month, visited Halas Hall on Monday. Agent Kennard McGuire said Pace "had a very good and productive" visit.

McGuire declined to discuss specifics in relation to a contract offer. Pace reportedly has an offer from Baltimore.

If Pace signs, the Bears probably would start him at left tackle and shift Chris Williams to the right side. Pace was selected to seven Pro Bowls at left tackle and is destined to be a Hall of Famer. He likely would have been the Rams' starting left tackle for the 2009 season had they not opted to save $6 million in cap space.

Showing interest in Orlando Pace was intriguing. But reports that they are seriously targeting him and planning on using him at left tackle raises an eyebrow. This suggests to me they have serious doubts about Williams. Pace would be a nice addition at RT. But his elite LT days are over.

I'd really be completely shocked if Angelo made a strong push for Cutler.

Man do I hope I'm wrong though...

clayton didn't mention the bears as one of the interested team.

Clayton mentioned the Bears as one of top 3 teams he saw in the running yesterday, although he added that he didn't think they'd have enough to get it done.

I blame Cutler a little. He has gone overboard with the whining. But if that's what it takes to get traded, so be it. McDaniels really screwed up here. He had a franchise QB but tried to upgrade that with "his guy" when "his guy" had very little track record of success. He should have immediately praised Cutler for being the franchise QB, instead of hedging like he did at the beginning by saying things like everybody is tradable.

Detroit: could offer the #1 overall + players, which would allow Denver to pick Stafford. If they aren't willing to offer the #1 overall I think it hurts their chances considerably.

If I'm Denver, I don't want the #1, and I especially don't want the #1 and use it on Stafford. That guy is not worthy of #1 draft pick QB money. I'd much rather take multiple picks and a player or two than the #1 overall. Without a Peyton Manning available in the draft, the #1 overall pick just is not worth what it once was. It costs too much money and risks too much cap space on an unknown quantity.

agreed. even if stafford becomes as good as cutler, essentially, they just gave up their draft pick for nothing. and detroit has few desireable players that they could throw in.

See, that's what is doubly bad.

Not only did McDaniels make the mistake of pissing off his star QB. He also tried to replace him with an obviously worse QB, all because he would be "more comfortable" with him. At least, I can't see any other reason, because there's no doubt that Cassel's just not as good as Cutler.

Yeah, then count out Detroit. I was just trying to see a way they might be in the running. If they're just going to offer up the #20 + players, I wouldn't think the Bears would have much trouble beating that.

This just makes so much sense, so I'm rather convinced there's no way it actually happens.

I think Detroit can offer the 20, a 3rd rounder, and Ernie Sims. Lose a great LB, but a great QB is more of an asset. Plus, any 2010 picks from Detroit will likely be better than any other team's '10 picks as they should be picking in the top 10 for sure again. You also have to take into account that Denver may be willing to take less to get back at Cutler by trading him to a crappy team like the Lions. I think if Detroit wants him bad enough, Cutler will be wearing a Lions uniform.

Haha, if they do that then they're really stupid. Surely they're fliriting with riots in the streets of Denver already.

I highly doubt they will take less just to get back at them. That organization is in disarray. They can't afford to screw around sending messages. If they perceive equal value between the Bears and Detroit, I could see sending him to Detroit as an added insult, or maybe giving Detroit the opportunity to match any other offer that's made. But I doubt they actually take less just to screw him.

I didn't mean drastically less. But if the packages are close, I think they'd take the Lions deal.
