This signing just makes no sense at all

Well there goes one of Hendry's options for another starter. I actually wouldn't have minded signing him for one year.

The Giants rotation next year has the potential to be pretty damn good.

The NL West is looking reealllllyyyyy weak this season, especially if Manny doesn't re-sign with the Dodgers. The Giants could compete in that division.

Interesting. I'm still thinking that Hendry wants to add another starter (even if it's not Johnson now) because we are still looking to unload Marquis, and he seems to love Marshall in the bullpen/spot starter role. He always talks about pitching depth with Marshall being his main guy, so I still think he feels confident he can acquire another starter, like he said he wouldn't mind to do on the radio a few days ago.

There was a quick blurb on Samardzija in an article from the Tribune (about the Cubs looking at a few Japanese relievers).

<<...with Jeff Samardzija getting an opportunity to start in spring training games.>>

This is the first I've heard about the Shark getting an opportunity to start. Would he move to the rotation if the Cubs move Marquis?

I agree with both statements

The DBacks should rebound.

Rebound from what? They lucked out in 2007 and had a good record even though they were outscored. Last year they were right where they should be and that was with a great year from Johnson. They have Webb and Haren and that's basically it. I don't see them being good at all.

Between a more seasoned Upton and Scherzer, a full season of rauch and a possibly healthy Byrnes (though some would debate he's makes them better) Along with the likely improvements of Young, Jackson, Drew and Reynolds they could be very good team. They need to find a 2B and another starter but they could be a very good team this year.

I was wondering why no RJ news lately (since we were reportedly interested).

I kinda wanted him on the Cubs, as a 5th starter.

Oh well I guess that leaves extra money for a bat.

I'd have to say it does actually. As someone else noted, they have a pretty strong rotation with this signing. Also, Randy getting his 300th win will add some media attention and excitment to what will probably be an otherwise uneventful season.

They should get Rickey Henderson for CF and ink Jamie Moyer while they are at it.

All bad jokes aside, I understand why Sabean is "going for it" in that division.

Bad jokes considering the Cubs are older than the Giants.

Why are those guys likely to improve?
