I haven't heard anything about where Anderson may end up in 2009. Granted he's certainly on the downside of his career, but he's a good defensive outfielder who can still put the bat on the ball.

Is there a place for him on this team? I really haven't looked into all his stats but is it safe to say he could hit 20-25 HR's and drive in 70-100 runs depending on where he bats in the lineup - + he's a LH hitter.

I wouldn't want to sign him to a long term contract, but could he fill a void for a year or two?

Just tossing an idea out there.

Geez - I'm reminded of the reason I quit coming here so often. When I first joined, this was a great forum where you could bring up an idea and expect a little respectful discussion - even when people didn't agree.

For those of you who simply said no, or gave a couple reasons for why you would say no - thank you.

For those of you who can't come up with anything other than "lol's" or "why stop there?" or "that was my favorite part of the post," thanks for offering up some really well thought out reasoning.

Oh - and by the way, for the record I never said it would be a good idea - all I did was toss the idea out there because I hadn't heard his name come up and I knew Hendry seemed to want a LH OF'r. Personally, the only option I like is Bradley but I know the odds of him being healthy enough to play a full season are slim at best.

Some people really need to lighten up.

No doubt this board has some smartasses and wanna be GM know-it-alls. It does get old.

That said, there are a lot of great Cub fans here who really know baseball. Like any message board, you take the good and the bad.

I recommend the ignore feature.

Wait...you're complaining about the behavior of others and then offer up this beauty?

The short answer is 'oh god no'

The long answer is that he's a 37 year old guy who cant really hit well and cant play the outfield. He would be an absolutely horrible player to sign.

You're better off playing Pie everyday than signing Anderson.

If only there was some place you could be a self-important dictator who quelled any inflammatory speech.

Nevermind.

Back on topic: Anderson is still a serviceable player, but not what we need right now. He's a decent lefty bat that would fill in nicely as a number 6 or 7 hitter for a contender, but were looking for a 4 or 5. He'll probably be signed by either a team who misses out on Dunn, Bradley, and Abreu, or perhaps overpaid as a spare part by someone like the Yankees or Red Sox, or even back with the Angels. I read on one of the rumor sites that the Rays had him eyed as a back up if they missed out on Bradley, but they need a righty.

I actually thought the replies were pretty tame and reasonable, given the topic you created. Plus I don't understand the "some people really need to lighten up" statement when it seems like you're the only one who is upset.

When I clicked on this thread I was horrified that this was being reported somewhere as a legit option. Thankfully it's not.

someone will sign him (Tampa Bay maybe). i'm hoping Hendry is bright enough to avoid him

Tampa is too smart to sign him.

some reports on Rotoworld have some loose links between the two, especially if the Rays don't sign Bradley. Don't know why they would favor Anderson over Burrell, but apparently they do

You know how Hendry works though, he never likes to leave an off season empty handed, and if he somehow misses out on Dunn, Bradley, and Abreu, I could see him going after Anderson just so he could say he did something, as he did with Jacque and Burnitz before.
