No mention of how much he wants, but Milwaukee seems adamant that they're only going to offer one year. He's a type B, so he wouldn't cost any picks. Anyone else think he's worth a two year deal? He's old, but he was one of the best LOOGYs in the league the last two years. I don't have much faith in Cotts, and I don't want Marshall tied up in the bullpen if needed to start because we have no other good options for that role. I normally wouldn't entertain Shouse for two years, but since we don't have any decent LH options in house for the pen outside of Marshall, who has much more value as a long man or starter (or trade bait...), I might be open to it. What other good LOOGY candidates are out there besides him?

''No. Starting we don't need. We're set. We've got six good starters [including Sean Marshall], and they're all experienced. Getting Dempster back was the key. We're in good shape with our starting pitching. Bullpen-wise, [we're looking for] possibly one more experienced pitcher. We've got a lot of young kids out there.''

That is Lou's quote. So I would assume the Cubs are looking at any and all options for the pen. It wouldn't surprise me if the Cubs decide to target Shouse. I mean Hendry has target lefties like Remlihger/Eyre/Rusch in the past.

I wouldn't mind adding Shouse, but I rather not give him a two year deal. Plus I wouldn't wanna spend more then 2m on Shouse, and I wouldn't be surprised if he's asking for 3-3.5m.

I want Mark Hendrickson as the cheap and good situational lefty/swing guy.

Overall Rhodes was 4-1 in 61 games with a 2.04 ERA. In his 25 games for the Marlins, he was 2-0 with a 0.68 ERA.

In his 17-year career, Rhodes, 39, stands 79-61 with 32 saves and a 4.23 ERA. Lefties have hit .221 against him, righties .245.

If we end up trading Marshall adding a veteran lefty to the Pen wouldn't be a bad idea. Rhodes doesn't cost a pick , he's cheap and on a year deal. He had a few good years with Lou back in Seattle.

How much would Hendrickson cost? If he'll be cheap for the year, I'd go with him- he's solid enough and could both LOOGY and be decent enough against righties. This would seem to be one of those spots to just go with whoever is cheap and not terrible, hopefully staying away from multiyear. Although Shouse is about as loogtastic as you can get with that absurd delivery, isn't he also pretty old at this point? like 39-40.

Probably get Hendrickson for 1 yr. with option(s) for around 2-2.5mil as teams keep making the mistake of putting him in non-specialized roles hurting his potential value. He likely has more future potential value as a situational lefty maxing out at prob. 3-4mil per year down the road (if he does well in that role) compared to bouncing around as a failed starter. Who knows though, his ego could be telling him that he is a starter and he'll wait it out.

Fwiw, Shouse is 40.
