Rant...For the second time this year the Defending Champs are playing the team that has the best record and the fastest team ever to 50 points, with no national coverage. There is no way the NBA or the NFL would let a game of this magnitude not get national coverage.

that's what happens when the nhl shoots itself in the foot and limits itself to two nights a week on a channel that some nhl arenas don't even receive.

They also create most of their schedule before the season even starts.

Yahoo was streaming 2 games tonight also...neither one the Sharks/Wings though

Detroit matched the whooping they took from San Jose a month ago at San Jose with a whooping of their own tonight in Detroit. This could be an epic 7 game series if they can both make it.

I'm not much of a hockey fan, but the Stars-Blue Jackets game has been pretty fun to watch tonight.

A) Stars and Blue Jackets are terrible, so I'm surprised it was fun to watch.

B) Wow, did the Wings rape the Sharks hahah.

While I admittedly don't follow hockey very much, it seems like the Stars have suffered heavily from injuries this year. The Stars were up 5-3 in the 3rd and managed to let the Blue Jackets tie. In OT the Blue Jackets scored a goal, but on review the goal was waved off because the guy kicked it in and now they're headed to a shootout. For a casual fan, it's been a fun game to watch.

Too bad you missed Avery :(

If you're referring to his personality, FSNSW has covered that quite extensively. I really never got to see him play, though.

I watched bits and pieces of about seven games last night. My impressions from around the league are:

1) The Blues are severely undermanned and a scrappy bunch, but they are pretty fun to watch. There was a questionable hit by Backes on Semin last night that I thought was going to send that game into a full-out brawl. Great hitting for about a five-minute stretch.

2) Michael Ryder is good. That goal he scored last night where he just smoked the Toronto D-men was ridiculous. I would love to see Boston come out of the East.

3) San Jose. HAHA!

I'm really enjoying this season, though mostly because the Hawks are playing so well. Center Ice was a good investment.

I thought about center ice, I'll probably do it next season... but mainly because I probably won't be in the Chicago area and want to watch the Hawks.

And yea the Sharks got mauled, I watched about half of the game. I believe they have to fly back to SJ and play the Rangers tonight or tomorrow... they might get their first losing streak of the season!

Although, I would have rather seen DET get beat for the Hawks sake... was still a good game.

Brassard out 2 months... Versteeg CLEAR front runner for the Calder now.

When was the last time a team had back to back Calder winners?

Boston Bruins

66-67 Bobby Orr

67-68 Derek Sanderson

not a bad pair

Damn... so it really doesn't happen often, I knew I couldn't remember it in my lifetime.

The list of players who have won the Calder trophy is pretty impressive. I wonder if any other sport has had such an impressive list of Rookie of the Year winners.

So Avery gets suspended for saying "sloppy seconds" but Crosby gets nothing for sucker punching someone in the back of the head and groin while they were being held down?

Typical NHL... (don't give me any anti-Crosby [expletive]... this is embarrassing no matter who did it)

EDIT: Just found the video:

Obviously SAYING "sloppy seconds" is Much MUCCCCCH worse than cheap shotting someone being held down... nice move NHL, [expletive] morons.

EDIT:

Oh yea... Cindy got a "roughing" penalty for that... no fines, no suspensions....

Would love to see any other cheap shot artist get away with that with anything less than a 3 game suspension. I was really hoping the NHL was the last REAL sport out there.

i actually meant to post this yesterday, but yeah you can have free reign with insulting crosby on that one. what a dirty move.

that doesn't exonerate avery though.

ETA: i hate the red wings. i really, really hate the red wings.

I completely agree it doesn't exonerate Avery, but man can you imagine the suspension if ANYONE else did that?

Wow haven't even seen anywhere that the league is reviewing the Crosby incident... if they don't then this league is truly a sham when it comes to disciplinary actions.

100% agreed. I hadn't seen the video until just now. What kind of pansy punches people with his gloves on. I like that Crosby has a physical element to his game. Someday I hope Toews and Kane do the same. But that's just ridiculous. He needs to get his ass whipped by someone.

I really dont care that much that the league isnt reviewing it. It just bothers me that when Pittsburgh plays Atlanta again, anyone on Atlanta who looks at Crosby is probably going to get a game misconduct. The NHL has always had a police it yourself mentality, except there is no way that they are going to allow Eric Boulton to kick the crap out of Crosby. So Crosby will basically get away with it.

I agree the league won't do anything. If I was in charge, that would be a one-game suspension.

I would also, but if not dont suspend Eric Boulton if he takes on Crosby one on one. If Crosby wont take him on, it will just show everyone in Hockey what a turtle he really is and he will lose respect with everyone including his teammates. I might not like Claude Lemuiex but I at least respected that he lined up with McCarty and took the beating that he had coming

Devils>>>>>>>>>Flyers

Just sayin

yes, a shootout victory at home, on a day when the flyers had played the day before and the devils hadn't, certainly proves the devils' dominance over the flyers.
