I live and work in the North suburbs, so pretty much all of my friends, family, and co workers who follow baseball are Cubs fans, so they share in my misery, but to those out of town, how have your friends or co workers treated this delicate situation? Have they been giving you a hard time? When you came to work on Monday, did they treat you like your mother had just died? Just curious.

It's worse anywhere not on the North side.

I live about 25 minutes from the city and Sox fans were relentless. You'd think people in their early to mid 20s would get over the fact that it's baseball. Then again, it's [expletive] Sox fans who take more pride in the Cubs losing than anything their team did this year.

People at work and school would not shut the hell up about how the Cubs got swept and I wanted to break a lot of faces out of annoyance. I took it hard the first day but by Monday I was in Blackhawks mode and didn't want to hear about it anymore. I still have idiot Sox fans reminding me of how the Cubs failed.

Unless they're fans of the Red Sox, Rays, Phillies, or Dodgers (which is probably 1 or 2 people out of hundreds).......the people who are around me are smart enough to understand their teams did no better.

I've heard the same thing I've heard for 30 years.

I've only been old enough to pay attention for about 15 (around age 6 or 7) years... so I don't know how you do it...

But they probably have in the past.

This year was different though. Its the 100 year mark, and since May, its looked like our year, and weve let it be known, and then this happens.

I probably don't have to tell you what it's been like in St. Louis.

It's not even just the fans. Today. TODAY! Five days later, there are two columns in the Post-Dispatch about the Cubs.

Granted, there isn't much else for the sportswriters in this town to talk about right now. The worst team in the NFL, a hockey team picked by most to finish last in the conference. The Cardinals.

But still, they need to get over us already.

Were not even over us yet. The wounds will take time to heal, and our rivals will enjoy every minute of it.

Here, 120 miles from where Vance lives, I have been putting up with ridicule, insults, jokes, and just generally snide remarks for the 30+ years I have lived here. It got worse after 2003, and the harassment really got bad this last weekend.

But this too shall pass. If nothing else, the stock market problems and real estate collapse will soon divert their attention.

Yet I still don't feel good about it. Perhaps I have had an identity crisis, due to an identification that for me began in 1967. Well then I guess it's my problem. But it hasn't helped that some people have been so mean.

Yeah, trust me the Brewer fans around here don't dare talk about how great their franchise has done in comparison. It's not a real solid argument after 26 years of their own failure.

There's Tiger fans. They're not dumb enough to suggest how bad the Cubs did when they blew their own golden opportunity and had a massive collapse this year of their own to deal with.

There's 1 Red Sox fan. He's always made it known he roots for the Cubs until the WS if the BoSox are there. Heard nothing from him.

Minny fans......I just don't get alot of tripe from them, no matter what. Not even on the Vikings/Bears. I think people from Minny are just generally nice.

Not many White Sox fans here, oddly enough. I suppose I would get crap from them, but they aren't around me.

I had my desk swept by a mini broom about 15 times on Monday. Probably half of them by people who didn't know who James Loney was until last Wednesday. And oddly enough, the diehard Dodger fans here haven't said a word to me and have been pretty darn nice.

Go Phillies.

The student body here is 50% Cubs fans and 50% Cubs HATERS. Not a pretty sight at all. A lot of them dont have a team, they just find the Cubs fan majority to be annoying. I cant go to a bar if the Cubs are on because they piss me off so much.

god, that is what I notice. Casual fans love to crow about my team going out, and I couldn't even tell you who 'their' team is.

On the other hand, my hardcore Brewer/Sox fan buddy was telling me on the phone yesterday that we (Cub fans) have to realize that we're favored for the NL Central right now for 2009.

My favorites are the ones who dont root for any particular team, but just hate the Cubs. Believe me, it sounds pathetic, but they are out there. When did the Cubs become almost as hated as the Yankees and Red Sox?

When we became louder than the home team's fans.

Pretty much everyone who knows me is aware that prodding with me is not really a good idea. My brother in law and cousin made the mistake of saying "What time is tonights game" and "how bout them Cubbies."

They listened and backed off.

Uh, it's more like 80% Cubs fans. Conservatively. Iowa City is just about the most Cubs friendly place in the world outside of Wrigleyville.

I was at game three, and that was pretty brutal. If I were to guess the people that were the roughest on us weren't the diehard Dodger fans, but I still encountered enough ugliness that I will be cheering for the Phillies for sure. The 3-4 close friends I have that are big Ddogers fans have been very cool, and a few people at the game apologized for the booing and threats that my group dealt with for much of the game. My normal group of friends have been surprisingly nice about it since I have got back to Vegas though. Even my White Sox fan friends and the guys that are usually brutal have been pretty easy on me.

Yeah, after going to game 3, I will probably have a tough time rooting for the Dodgers (who I never really cared one way or another before) even if it helps the Cubs. That was a horrible experience.

The fanbase at Dodger games have become more and more like the old Raider games in LA or the current Raider games in San Diego.

I live close to Winnipeg, MB and most of the people that I interact with are Blue Jays fans (so they have an obvious inferiority complex, like many of my fellow Canucks as they are hopelessly jealous of anything American....another topic for another day) and they all bashed me and let me have it for having hope for this team. I expected nothing less.
