How is he not a troll?
How are you not an idiot? I am no more a troll than those that stick their head in the sand & claim we just ironically had a bad series...just like last year. How ironic would that be?

So why did you say we should sign Soriano before we got him?

You're a troll because no matter what the thread, you basically post the same cut and paste rantings about Soriano again and again and annoy the piss out of most people here.

Though at least this thread was actually supposed to be about Soriano. Kudos.

What I wonder is how was he doing say the last week before each of his playoff appearances (career). I remember this year he was slumping pretty bad going in. Maybe he wears down at the end of the season. I don't know, but I think it's worth the Cubs figuring it out.

I wish. It's really just a simple matter of Soriano being a great hitter against crappy pitchers who make mistakes, and a terrible hitter against great pitchers who don't make mistakes. You see a lot of those in the playoffs.

Great pitchers who don't make mistakes: Doug Davis, Livan Hernandez, Mark Redman, Carl Pavano, John Burkett, Brad Radke, Jarrod Washburn, Ramon Ortiz, Kevin Appier, Cory Lidle, Aaron Sele, Paul Abbot, Brian Anderson, and Miguel Batista.

And that's not even touching on all those unhittable relievers who are incredible pitchers who never make mistakes. Ya know, guys like a 58 year old Mike Morgan, a 72 year old Greg Swindell, an 86 year old Bobby Witt, Jose Paniagua, Jim Mecir, Jeff Tam, I mean these are HOF level guys.

To illustrate my point

Soriano has sucked against AJ Burnett(200 OPS in 10 PAs), John Lackey (315 in 33 PAs), Rich Harden(364 in 22 PAs), Josh Johnson(385 in 13 PAs), and Pedro(415 in 44 PAs)

He's also sucked against Seth McClung(244 in 13 PAs), Jose Mercedes (308 in 13 PAs), Gil Meche(170 in 19 PAs), and Travis Harper(344 in 24 PAs)

He's beat up on Lance Cormier, Jorge Julio, Pete Walker, Josh Towers, and Jose Lima.

He's also done great against Jake Peavy, Danny Haren, Kevin Brown, and Chris Carpenter.

why not go for lugo at ss or 2B & Soriano in center. Anything short of an impact bat in the OF & one impact starting pitcher is unacceptable. I don't count Drew as the impact bat we need either. I'd get Lugo for short & then package izturis w/ murton to get a starter.

Wow, that is some righteous ownage right there.

And why can't he master the quoting system?

the return of the search function has been the great equalizer at NSBB

as for the quote thing, he probably has BBCode turned off in his posts for some reason

It won't be at my expense as I have much more of a life than it appears many on here do. To go through searches to prove a point on a message board is about as low as it gets folks. What exactly have you won here? I'm sure it was made in the context of appearing we were going to land him & what else was needed around him. Even then, I was pulling for a lugo pickup as I knew leading off soriano would be a huge mistake like it's turned out to be. I consider soriano a "me first" in the line of the sosa years. For the guy that told me to quit attacking other posters. I only do that after i have repeatedly (for months) been attacked. I'm then attacked in triplicate after that so that is classic pot calling kettle. At the end of the day, this is a message board for opinions & not for winners & losers of arguments. Many on here have their own hard on for a certain player. Mine happens to be one that has 3 hits in two postseason series. I think I've made a case for mine.

Julio Lugo, yes that would've been the answer. He's been awful the last 2 years. At least he's not me first though. He makes sure his wife gets her hits before he worries about his own.

our opponents dont even have to waste any resources to scout Soriano...they just dust off the "S. Sosa" report from a decade ago...

Yeah, 1998 Sammy Sosa totally sucked bro.

It looks like the Soriano Defenders are winning, so I'd just like to throw in my 2 cents.

My impressions of Soriano is that he beats up on bad pitches and mistake pitches from good pitchers, and lefthanders more in general. Soriano is obnoxious because of his contract. Like Mo Vaughn, it's not Mo Vaughn's fault that dumb GMs gave him a contract like that, but if you're a fan of his team, how do you not dislike Mo Vaughn? Those were fun days for the Mets. I've not sure I've ever seen that much money allocated so poorly.

Anyway, where was I? Soriano. He's annoying because he looks totally incompetent at the plate. He gets into an 0-2 faster than any other hitter in major league history, it seems. And in the playoffs, it's the same crap every year. "Hey, there's a breaking pitching that's starting 9 inches off the plate and will finish 2 feet off the plate! Let's swing at every single time we see that pitch and never lay off of it! Hell, I'm making a ton of money, I've never hit that pitch before in my life but that just means the odds are in my favor."

Would anyone argue with the idea that Soriano is the least intelligent "good hitter" in baseball?

Whenever I watch Soriano during the playoffs, it's like that episode of The Simpsons where Krusty bet against the Harlem Globetrotters and acts all frustrated. In this case "Come on, he's using a freakin' ladder" becomes "How the hell do you swing at that low and outside breaking ball that's nowhere close every single time?"

That's because the only "defending" going on is countering incredibly scattershot attempts at rational analysis.

It's unlikely to find someone here who is going to defend Soriano as one of the better hitters out there, or his contract. It's more a matter of countering the idea some seem to have that he has little or even no value whatsoever, which is ridiculous.

I don't buy the "small sample size, bad luck" explanation though. How stunning is your bad luck when you swing at crap down and away a foot off the plate?
