Here's another wrinkle....the Cubs have never won a playoff game west of Chicago.

1984 vs. San Diego 0-3

1989 vs. San Francisco 0-3

2007 vs. Arizona 0-2

2008 vs. LA Dodgers ???

Wow, that is genuinely interesting.

Cubs have lost 8 straight playoff games by a final combined score of 54-18, a perfect 3-1 ratio. None of those losses were by 1 run, and only one was by two runs. This losing streak is now past halfway to matching the epic 0-14 start to the 1994 season.

The Cubs have still lost 7 straight potential pennant or WS-clinching games, but they won't get a chance to extend that this season.

The Cubs go to L.A. now. On the one hand, they have an obscenely good pitching matchup in Game 3. On the other, that would be pointless, I just want it over. They have never won a playoff game west of Chicago (0-8 all-time).

The Cubs are one loss away from being 3-12 all-time in playoff series, and are now 9-22 in playoff games since 1945 (or since 1984, if you prefer).

Why in the heck would you just want it over? Just win one game at a time. It has been done before.

Making a "fake rally" and getting my hopes up has been done before too. The emotional letdown of that isn't worth the slim chance that they might complete the rally.

I guess. I know I am going to die. Statistics are pretty overwhelming in telling me that. But, I am going to try and stick around as long as I can.

It has been a fun ride this year. The best year I have ever had as a Cubs' fan. I want to see it through to the end. Hopefully that means 11 more wins.

Exactly. Win game 3 (which we should) and you're talking about having to win 2 games over 3 days, one in L.A. one in Chicago. Neither would be poor pitching matchups. I'm as disappointed as anyone and am not overly optimistic but I sure as hell don't just want it over.

Why does everyone say this? We should have won game 1 and 2 as well. There is nothing that this team is doing right now that makes me believe we should win any more games this year.

Rich Harden vs. Hiroki Kuroda is a huge advantage. Ryan Dempster vs. Derek Lowe and Carlos Zambrano vs. Chad Billingsley is not.

I know it's a huge advantage pitching wise but the offense isn't doing anything right now to convince me we should win any game.

it's a big advantage, but it's not like the offense is assured of doing anything.

eta: in 15.1 innings against the Cubs this year, Kuroda has given up 1 ER.
