I also think Bear fans should temper their enthusiasm a bit. Not that I think Orton sucks, but remember we saw this sort of thing from Grossman in '06 too. Then teams dialed up the blitzes and it was over.

I'm not too concerned in that aspect..from what I have seen teams have been blizting Orton just as much as Grossman, the difference being Orton does a much better job of hanging in the pocket and getting rid of the ball.

Oh yeah no doubt. Orton knows when to step up a bit to avoid the sack and he doesn't panic like Grossman did with pressure around him. I gotta tell you, I've been very pleased with Orton. I think he can actually be an average NFL qb.

That throw to Sheed down the sideline yesterday was a thing of beauty. I was like, "OMGZ, that's like....an actual NFL QB type throw with great timing and touch and everything!!"

Yeah, Orton's been good to watch so far. Hopefully he keeps it up.

I've done that on a few balls Orton has thrown this year. He's impressed me quite a bit with some of his throws.

Im not going to call for a complete domination of the falcons but Matt Ryan is going to be under a lot of pressure to move that offense.

Think so? I think they'll try to run it, like they did this week with success. Hopefully they won't have the same level of success against the Bears.

Kyle Orton still doesn't make the pretty throws, but everything else he does at QB blows Grossman away. It's not like teams aren't sending guys at him. He's been hit quite a bit, but he avoids pass rushes and adjusts on the fly. If something bad happens, he gets right back in there, completely the opposite of Rex. Kudos to Ron Turner for actually designing an offense that takes advantage of its talent. The line isn't good enough to be able to run the ball at will, or shutdown any and all pass rushers, but it's held its own. I'm glad they reduced the number of touches for Forte, he wasn't going to last the season at that pace. They really need Jones and the other guys to take some of his time.

Unfortunately Jones didn't look all that good to me.

Jones is turning into a steal too. I've been impressed so far.

As for Orton, I wasn't sure if I liked the move to start him. I figured he couldn't be worse than Rex. He's been a pleasant surprise so far as well. Just the elimination of INT and fumbles that Rex had come a custom to makes a huge difference for this team.

He's done a few nice things. He's not a primary back anymore, but he's ok as a compliment to Forte.

One of the huge difference I see between Kyle and Rex, and I think goony was getting at this, is that Kyle has some pocket presence. He'll step up in the pocket when the pressure is coming, rather than backpedal himself into a 30 yard loss. When Kyle gets sacked, it's a 5-10 yard loss. Kyle calls out the defense better, and when he knows they're bringing pressure, does a good job of getting rid of the ball quickly.

He's developing nicely. I think it's going to be a fun season to watch him grow.

Just please. Can we get a guy who continues to develop instead of suddenly starting to suck and never regaining his composure? One time.

He's nothing special, but he's a good enough backup/complementary back. He's also probably not yet 100% off the surgery.

Jones has been ok, but he is with a new offense, new teammates, fresh off surgery. he is devleoping. Orotn is progressing faster then I expected, but maybe I expected too little. I wont hide the fact I liked grossman, but i also didnt dislike Orton, I just didnt expect him to grow as fast as he has been. I hope he keeps it up.

In other news, Williams had full participation in practice on Friday. Our oline could get much better soon.

Personally I really couldn't care less if I'm right or wrong about a QB in this town. Show me someone who can play well, and I'll back the guy.

I thought Grossman was being criticized for not only the things he sucked at, but also the failings of the rest of the offense. Even so, I'll readily admit I didn't expect this level of play from Kyle and if he keeps this up I would be happy to never see Grossman again.

I agree. I wonder if we could re-sign Grossman for a back-up, or if another team will let him start.

I don't think another team will let him start, at least not right away. But Rex probably feels differently. I wouldn't mind Grossman being the backup in Chicago if he'll take the job. He might just want a change of scenery at this point, which I suppose is understandable.

I'm going to bet Rex would rather sign elsewhere as a backup than come back for another year as the Bears backup. I'd like him back on a team friendly deal, but depending on how the rest of this year goes, I could see going with Orton, Hanie and another rookie draft pick as next year's depth chart. But there's still a good chance Orton will not be able to start and finish all 16 games (not counting mop up duty) and Rex may have to play a significant role this year, and how he performs in that role will significantly affect what happens with him next year.

barring injury, I dont see Orton letting go of the reighns. Rex might only get mop-up.

I was alluding to the possibility of Orton getting injured. He's avoided the rush fairly well, but he's still had a lot of guys in his face and this is not a shutdown line. Orton is probably going to get banged up at one point.

Norwood and Turner arent going to do enough to beat this defense. Offenses need to have more than one dimension to beat this defense. If they march up and down the field running the ball then the falcons are bad ass. Ryan is going to be put in positions of 2nd and 3rd and long. Thats where the Bears D has a huge advantage.

Agreed, but don't take Ryan for granted. He was rather good against us yesterday. We're pretty banged up, but he still had a very solid game.

That being said, the Bears are much more healthier than the Packers were on defense. We hardly got any pressure on him so he wasn't flustered when he dropped back to pass. I'm fairly certain the Bears will be able to win this game.

The falcons have been weird in that no one aspect of the offense can be pointed to as the reason we lost or won the games. The passing game has been pretty good in our three wins but atrocious in our two losses. Turner and Norwood have been excellent in the wins but not good in the losses. I would realistically expect something like we saw last week against the Packers. Matt Ryan went 16 for 26 for 194 yards, 2 TDs, and 1 INT. I would guess that Turner ends somewhere in the 70-80 yard range, with Norwood going for about 50.
