Have at it, here are the guidelines according to the BBWAA.

MVP: 10 spots points awarded 14-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1

Cy Young: 3 spots awarded 5-3-1

Rookie of the Year: 3 spots awarded 5-3-1

Manager of the year: 3 spots awarded 5-3-1

Voting for Geovany Soto for every spot isn't funny anymore.

DEFEND THIS MADNESS POST HASTE

HE WAS IN MONEYBALL

the al was pretty weak this year, so pretty much any #1 choice can be shot down. defensively and offensively, i'd say pedrioa and youkilis had the best overall contribution to their team. since it was a tie, my #1 vote went to the player i personally like better.

QUESTION FOR YOU. why do you have morneau ranked higher when youkilis has him beat in pretty much every stat category (except for rbi?) i only bring this up because i saw ken rosenthal pimping morneau for the mvp and it made me want to cry.

Posted

eh, Morneau was 16th in WPA and Youk was 37th, which factored in some

and speaking of WPA, i know it's not a be-all-end-all stat and has flaws but ARod barely had a positive total. for shame IMB for shame...

something funny is I think I saw was that Christian Guzman had a higher VORP than Morneau btw

i almost felt really bad but then i checked bp and he's still first in the AL in vorp so it cant be TOO bad of a pick

that's true, it's still better than Youkilis #1

just now browsing through the vorp leaderboards, how the hell is aubrey huff so high? fourth in the AL?

After watching what Sabathia did for the Brewers, it might change my mind on whether a pitcher should be considered for the MVP. It won't happen (MVP), but you can't find a better example of carrying a team to the playoffs almost single handedly than Sabathia in 2008. I would love to be his agent this offseason, unless his arm falls off during the playoffs.

he hit a ton of XBH

6 more than everybody's favorite bald hideous Greek/Jew

youkilis had 2 more xbh than morneau. despite playing in 17 less games.

THERE IS NO DEBATE

It seems insane to me that some of you don't have Howard higher. With RISP he hit .320. With RISP and less than 2 outs he hit .322. In September he hit .352 with 11 home runs. He led the league in home runs and RBIs. Granted his OPS might not be that great. The thing is he swings for the fences a lot with no one on base. He figures how much is a two out single really going to help my team. With men on he hit .309. I know a lot of you hate RBIs, and I am not even going to get in that argument, but the guy does close his swing up with men on base, and tries to drive in runs instead of swinging for the fences. With men on he OPSed over 1.000. One thing going against him is the fact that he was terrible late in games, but in all honesty I think he might be the most important player to his team that decided the outcome of their game. He also OPSed .964 in the second half and hit .274. From May on he hit .266, 43 HRs, 134 RBIs.
