Hell, if we keep playing as good as we are playing we might be forced to play that last Astros game. They are 3.5 back behind the Mets. It looks like to me we are going to play our guys, so their is no reason to think we can't win 5 of 6 against the Mets and Brewers. The Stros play Cincy and Atlanta. Two teams that are very beatable. Just throwing it out there that we are so good, we might force ourselves to play an unneeded final game.

And then?

Then for that game the Cubs field a team filled with guys who won't make the postseason roster.

And then the Mets or Brewers or whoever complain because the Cubs didn't field a competitive team.

BPro has them at ~1%. Making up 2 games vs 1 team, and 3 vs another over a 6 game stretch is pretty damn hard no matter who the opponents are. Couple that with the fact that the Astros just aren't very good.

Well, it did happen in 1998 as the Giants overcame a 5 game deficit to two teams in one week to force a playoff tiebreaker.

That Giants team was way better than this Astros team.

I doubt it happens. I was just saying it could happen. I would honestly think we'd play our guys. I could see a lineup of this.

LF- Soriano

2B- Fontenot

1B- Lee

3B- Ramirez

CF- Johnson

RF- Fukudome

C- Blanco/Hill

SS- Cedeno

P- Sean Marshall?

Say the Mets go 2-4 last 6. The Brewers go 2-4. And the Astros go 5-1. That could happen IMO. If the Brewers happen to go 3-3 during that time. How would they figure out a three way tie for the wild card? I'd guess that the Astros and Brewers have some kind of tiebreaker indivision. Head to Head maybe? Whoever won that tiebreak would play the Mets Tuesday night or something?

Ties with playoff spots on the line are broken on the field. They'd have to play 2 games on Wednesday. It would be a mess, and is a big reason why the Astros are idiots for wanting to jam 3 games into Monday and Tuesday at the end of the season.

Is our game with them, if had to be played on Monday?

Lou says "we have an obligation" so I guess that means we would field our starters in this situation.

Lou's obligation is to the Chicago Cubs first and foremost. If a situation occurs where the Cubs have to play the Astros for the final game of the yr, I pretty sure Lou is going to rest his "postseason roster".

Seems like we get screwed in that case.

That's exactly right. Who says we can't beat them with the other guys anyway... look out for number one. We've come too far to get screwed by some game that means nothing to us.

If we have to play the Astros it would be Monday. If there is more than 2 teams tied after that game, it's gonna be a mess.
