No it's not. Gagne is clearly worse across the board.

About the only thing Howry is worse at is that he gives up more hits. But Gagne has a much higher ERA, a much higher WHIP, walks way more batters, gives up home runs much more frequently, has a higher OPSA (.917 to .874) and strikes out slightly fewer batters per nine innings. Add to that the fact that he's getting paid twice as much as Howry is and it's not even close.

 

I wouldn't want either, but if I was forced to pick one of the two to have on my team, it would be Howry and I wouldn't have to think twice about it.

yes, but Lou has used Howry nearly twice as many innings, so though Gagne's earned run AVERAGE is worse, Howry has actually given up more runs. Granted, that's Lou's fault to a degree.....

The question asked who is the worse pitcher. According to the stats, that's Gagne. If the question was "Which pitcher has hurt his team more?", then it would probably be Howry.

But he doesn't walk anybody and since walks are what REALLY pisses Lou off, Howry's not that bad of a pitcher in Lou's eyes.

 

I have no idea what Lou will do with the playoff roster but I really hope Howry doesn't get anywhere near it. If there weren't plenty of reasons to root for Angel Guzman already, if he pitches well it will decrease Howry's chances.

I voted for Howry. I voted for him because I absolutely love how Gagne is pitching. He's doing everything I ever wanted him to do. On the other hand, I absolutely hate how Howry is throwing.

 

That said, I wouldn't do a Howry for Gagne trade, not in a million years...
