The only way I can see the Brewers catching the Cubs is if the Cubs can't take care of business in the 6 remaining head to head matchups. If the Cubs can at least split those the Brewers will have to sweep a lot of other teams to make up the difference.

I was just starting to get a little weak in the knees. A little reassurance never hurt anyone. It's not so much the Cubs I'm worried about, it's more that the Brewers aren't faltering!

They'll start playing the Mets on Monday. Lets see if we can make up some ground and\or burn off some games.

If we continue to push back our top starters this may be more meaningful than we all hope.

and if we don't rest them we may have tired starters for the playoffs. No matter what we are going to playoffs as division leaders or a WC.

I hope so. Aren't any of the Brewers' starters in need of a day or two or a week or two off?

They are but then they are managed by Dusty Lite.

So we lost 2 in a row to probably the 3rd best team in the league after winning 7 straight. I really hope none of you actually need reassurance.

In a week when Howry and Marquis actually looked decent, and Zambrano and Harden weren't in top form, it seems that Cub fans are being thrown for a loop!

Yost and the Brewers know that neither Sabathia nor Sheets will be back next year with both being free agents. What do they care if they ruin their arms?

A manager who doesn't care is always dangerous. If Yost had any brains, it would be even worse...LOL

they should care that their guys aren't burned out in the postseason, and yost is doing everything he can to plow them into the ground right now.

For Yost, his job is on the line. Get in the playoffs, and he may have bought himself another yr. Fail to get in...........and late the floodgates open. Yost is riding Sheets/CC into the ground for self-preservation only.

You are giving him too much credit. I just think he is an old school guy like Dusty who thinks pitch counts are for stats nerds. "Don Drysdale and Bob Gibson used to throw lot of complete games and now we just baby guys blah, blah, blah..."

Thanks I forgot to update :)

No prob.

Even though it feels like it should be kinda frustrating after losing these last 3 straight, we're still pretty well in control of the division, let alone the Wild Card.

If we can just scrape out a .500 finish (12-12), the Brewers will have to finish at a .720 pace (18-7) to take the Central, and neither the Phils or Mets will be anywhere near enough to touch us in the WC race.

I've been annoyed because the bats have been quiet over the last few days.

This is a nice thread to remind me that the team has built up a good amount of goodwill over the entire year. They'll get it goether.

(Just start winning!)

Yeah, I'm worried because there's no one on this team I trust to produce offensively in this lineup. I feel like Soto, Ramirez, DeRosa, maybe Edmonds could do okay, I expect ****-all from Lee and especially Fukudome and Soriano.

Would anyone be surprised if the Cubs lost every playoff game 3-1, 4-2, 3-0, 4-1, that sort of thing? Anyone going to be surprised by the "(fill in the blank pitcher) was nasty tonight?" topics like there was last year for Webb and Doug Davis (even when I still think they weren't).

Why would you expect more out of Edmonds than Soriano?

Posted

Because I don't think Soriano is capable of hitting good pitching at all. And unfortunately I don't think the Pirates' starting pitching or the Marlins bullpen will be featured anywhere in the playoffs.

He's good at punishing mistakes, but he's not adaptable. If a pitcher even halfway executes his gameplan he's got no chance.

Plus, he just plain swings at too much crap. I've never seen a "successful" hitter who swings at unreachable low and away breaking balls so frequently as Soriano. I wonder why anyone throws him anything but low and away breaking balls, he's awful at laying off of them.

I remember in the 2003 ALCS where Soriano struck out 11 times in 30 ABs, most of them on some garbage looking breaking pitch low and away. Fast forward 5 years it's still a near-daily occurence with him. Go look at Sunday's game, 8th inning, vs. the Phillies, Madson struck him out on a pitch that was crap low and outside.
