if they make the playoffs, the white sox will be the worst playoff team in the american league. i'd love for the cubs to play them in the world series.

I'd probably rate the Twins below the White Sox. However, the White Sox probably have the worst pitching of any team that would make the playoffs.

The Sox are a one-dimensional team that lives and dies with the home run. I have no problem facing them. Theyre pitching is not that good either. The time they swept us remind you we had Gallagher and Marshall going in two starts. Rather face their pitching anytime rather than the Rays or Angels

thinking about this more, i don't think it is possible for the cubs to lose in the world series no matter who they play

the gods won't do that to us

they get in, they win...rays, twins, sox, bosox, angels

Columnists in big markets that suck piss me off so much.

Who's a big market columnist that doesn't suck?

I like Peter Gammons.

4 or 5 years ago that would've been akin to saying "I like Joe Morgan."

The mass Peter Gammons hate has really died down in general over the past few years.

Is it because he had a stroke or something? Nancies

Seriously?? I see it as the other way around. Gammons is exceptionally terrible now. He used to be pretty good probably about up until the 4 years ago you reference. Once the Red Sox won in '04, Gammons became pretty awful.

I never got the Gammons hate. It was based on the fact that he was Boston-centric and was wrong when predicting some trades. But he was one of the first big-time columnists to actually talk about prospects as something more than the old every prospect is a suspect manner. He also acknowledged some of the newer stats before most anybody else heard of them.

I was speaking more in general, not necessarily my opinion.

My opinion is he's just another of many average crappy sports journalists.

It was pretty funny when he was on ESPN saying Nomar wouldn't be traded just as the news came out on the bottom that Nomar was traded, though.

I think its because unlike most baseball writers, Gammons has started to use stats such as OPS and ERA+ frequently. He still uses a lot of words like "gamer" and uses HRs and RBI, but at least he has shown a willingness to change.

Also, he has no problem telling it the way he is. He's ripped A-Rod, Manny, Schilling, etc. I mean, he's still an ESPN talking head, but he's gotten a lot better.

Stark has also seemed to get better...

And Neyer isn't all I thought he was like 10 years ago anymore, but he's still decent.

He used, and I quote, "the sabermetric 'runs created'" on air the other day. :pig:

Well I wouldn't understand people hating Gammons before, but now he's no different than a screaming idiot at Fenway.
