If the Pirates' statement is telling the truth, Alvarez and Boras have no leg to stand on.

Hosmer and the Royals got an extension to finish up their agreement right after midnight. Hosmer's already playing with no complaints from Boras there.

You used to have respect for Boras?

Yeah, I did. As much of a sham as he is, he still took care of his clients, and go them the money. That's his job, and he did it very well. Best in the business. It may not have been good for baseball, but it was good for his clients.

However, what he did with A-Rod was not for his client's wishes. And, with this, he becomes a welcher.

I never liked him, but I respected him. Now, no longer.

Don't forget about Sheffield in 2003.

I read it as a grievance against a number of agreements that came "too late" (Alvarez, Hosmer, ... others?). This could get both ugly and complicated very fast.

I hope this ends badly for Boras and co.

One thing I don't understand...how are these guys affiliated with the MLBPA, and why is the union filing a grievance for them? These guys have never paid a single due to the union. Normally you have to be a dues-payer before the union will take your case. This action doesn't and can't help existing major leaguers, I would think they would want to pick their fights on issues that affect guys already in the league. Plus, the proliferation of ridiculous bonuses to draftees means less money for major leaguers. Most of the guys who are currently on 40 man rosters haven't ever seen $6 mil. Why the MLBPA would get involved in filing a grievance on behalf of a guy who isn't part of the union to the detriment of those that are is beyond me.

Unions acting irrationally and against their own best interests? NO WAY!!!
