You don't pull your starter after 5 1/3 innings with a 6 run lead and the bottom of the order coming up.

 

Unless he's planning on extending Harden in the 2nd due to his extra rest and the fact that his last start was "only" 93 pitches.

He better not be planning on extending Harden until October.

If Jeff comes in, I want him to pitch the last 3 innings.

 

That might be what he's doing here. Pitch him 3 innings in preparation for a possible start on Sunday.

So, what's the roster move after today's game to give us another bullpen arm?

 

Might not need one. If things work out as planned, you can go with Shark the rest of this game, then Harden/Marshall/Wood or Marmol. Then tomorrow you have Gaudin/Howry/Cotts/Wood or Marmol fresh.

 

You might see a Samardzija/Marshall piggyback on Sunday.

yeah but he'd have thrown something like 40 or 50 pitches three days ago. not a big deal.
