Sheffield actually admitted to not playing hard and purposely making errors to get out of Milwaukee. By far the most selfish player ever. Two things happen if we claim him one, he goes on a crazy tear or the most likely senario he becomes such a distraction that we miss the playoffs. High risk, high reward. If he would be a bench guy id take him over ward because he could play 1st, lf, or Rf. For this to be an option Detroit would have to pay all of this year and at least ten mil of next years salary.

Sheffield unhappy, gets put on waivers, then hits two homers later that day.

Remember when we were "considering" Jim Edmonds.

He was signed within a week. I don't support this move if it happens, but I didn't support Jim's signing either... and now look at my sig. :)

Doesn't his wife have some family in the Chicago area? I remember a few years back when there were rumors about him maybe being interested in coming to Chicago because his wife was originally from the area. He may not even be married to her for all I know. Anyway, I never have really liked him so I hope the Cubs take a pass on him.

Sheffield is beginning to remind me of Canseco. He's not a good player at all anymore. He just wants to get enough playing time to reach that 500 hr plateau so he can go away.

If they take Howry and Marquis and pay some of Sheffs contract next year I'll take the gamble. Drop a motivated Sheff into a this race and his bat will come back to life again.

I'm starting to have a bad feeling that this will happen.

I seriously doubt it. He can't play the OF anymore due to his shoulder issues. With his insane salary Hendry would be a lunatic to acquire him.

I don't like this move because I don't like his contract for next season. If it were simply swapping Ward's spot on the bench for Sheffield and using Sheff in a platoon with Fukudome in right, I'd be ok.

If he clears waivers, and the Tigers want to pay a large portion of next year's contract, it might be worth considering. If we're going to owe 14 million to Sheffield next year, then pass.

You're right. Sheff's current wife, DeLeon Richards was born in Chicago.
