He might want to rest some guys but, in their current situation, I don't see how he can today. They cannot afford to lose too many more games in the Wild Card standings to the Brewers.

Tony has to be looking at that Brewers game and realizing it's an auto-win for the Crew. If the Cards fall 4 back in the WC with Carp hurt now and all the other crap? Wow, could be looking at adios in august for the birds.

Yeah, I hope we're witnessing the initial stages of their long-awaited fade. For all the wonderment at their staying power throughout the summer, I figured that at some late day they'd go from 4 or 5 games back to 10+ seemingly overnight, making us wonder what all the May-June angst was about. I'm going to hold off on burying them just yet--might as well enjoy watching our lead on them grow.

 

Wouldn't mind if they tax the Marlins bullpen a little before the Cubs get to Miami, though!

This is tough. I want the Cards to beat the Brewers for the Wild Card. But no part of me can actually root for them to win a game.

The Nationals send Garrett Mock (0-2, 4.91) to the mound for the finale. The right-hander, who was called up from Triple-A Columbus on Thursday, walked two in an inning of relief during a loss at Milwaukee on Friday.

 

Mock is starting for the Nationals for the first time since June 21, when he gave up four runs and eight hits, but walked eight in six innings of a 13-3 home loss to Texas.
