For those who don't know... tonight this was his line for his first four at-bats:

4-4 4HR, 4RBI

For the season:

51 GAMES -- 19 HR 79 RBI

.376 AVG -- 1.176 OPS

No those aren't typos.

With Ward not being effective? Is it possibly time?

(EDIT: He came up for another at-bat in the 9th and flew out to the warning track in right field)

Talk about a poor team showing... 4 home runs, all solo shots? That should be at least a 7 RBI game.

I always liked him off the bench. I hope they call him up again

Pie and Dubois both hit solo shots as well.

Id much rather have Hoff than Ward. They have pretty much the same skill set, but Hoffs younger and probably faster, so everytime he gets on base you would essentially be burning 2 players.

Speed's not a problem cause Marquis has been piggybacking with Ward for pretty much the entire season. But yeah, I'm afraid Ward is done for. Just a matter of whether the Cubs can afford to be patient enough and wait on Hoff til September.

I agree Ward is toast, though I have a feeling Lou is afraid that Hoff might not be able to do the pinch hit thing to well. I say give him a try, he can't be any worse then what Ward id giving us.

Ward makes me sick this year

Heck, so did starting pitcher Mitch Atkins.

The last two years Hoff has hit well in spring training, this year he's tearing up Iowa and the majors .What was his line last year in the minors? Could it be that the light finally went on for Hoff and he could be a late bloomer?

Last year, he went .319/.365/.552/.917 in 310 at bats but tore cartilage in his knee on July 2nd and missed the rest of the season.

I don't understand why we need to wait for next year on Micah, with Ward doing nothing. Hoff can hit anything, and this year Ward looks lost at the plate.

"I've been working on trying to stay short on my swing and not try to do too much, and the patience and practice paid off," Hoffpauir said. "I never hit more than two homers in a game and after the third one, the guys were starting to get on me a bit.

The left-handed hitter, who has 19 home runs this season, slugged a fastball to center field in the first inning, belted a changeup over the fence in right in the third, smacked another fastball to left-center in the sixth and ripped a slider to center leading off the eighth.

I hesitate to call Hoff a non-prospect with Ryan Ludwick doing what he is doing this year. I know Ludwick is the extreme exception, but you never know.

Who can tell. For every 1 Ryan Ludwick there's like 20 Ryan Shealys, Paul McAnultys, Justin Leones, etc.

yeah basically for every guy in the card system there are 20 guys in another system who don't turn out to be great players at age 30.

I know. This is why I said he's an extreme example. But he certainly seems like a late bloomer. The only way to find out is to give him a chance in the bigs, and he certainly deserves to at least be on the 25 man.

Difference is, Hoff looked good in his first stint in the major, when he actually had some at bats. The second time around, he was basically a seat filler.

I remember when Dubois and kelton first came up. Dubois looked OK at first, and kelton looked like garbage. Again, he could be a Ryan Ludwick. I really dont know his defensive skill set, only that hes primarily a first baseman whose played a bit of outfield. If he ever has a shot to make it, it will be somewhere else.

Hoff will be here on Sept. 1. I think there is a pretty good chance that - if he performs well - he could replace Ward on the playoff roster.

it'd be nice to stretch this lead out to 8 or 9 by september, so we can sit dlee and kosuke every once in a while down the stretch and get micah some at bats.

dont you have to be on the 25 man roster in august to make playoff roster?

Yes, but there's plenty of ways around that.

Just missed a 2 run shot in his first at-bat a couple minutes ago to straight away center. Has crushed everything the past few days.
