Something to keep in mind, however: Ludwick’s gaudy performance has come off some pretty lousy pitchers. According to Baseball Prospectus, Ludwick has faced the second-easiest pitching of any player in baseball. With 19 of the Cards’ 48 remaining games coming against NL pitching leaders Los Angeles, Chicago and Arizona, Ludwick is due for a few rough patches.

Even if the Cards take 2/3 this weekend, they are still 5 games back. It's time to bury them.

I dont see the Brewers losing any to the Natspos this weekend, but it would be nice to send the Cards 9 games back. Very nice indeed.

I think they will lose 1 of the 4 games. Also I do believe they will get Peavy in SD next week. Those are our only bright spots.

On the downside, the Nats are playing a DH today so their pen will likely be depleted

As much as I'd love to see a Cubs-Cards NLCS, I think I'd love it even more to sweep them this weekend to put them 9 games back and, effectively, give them no chance of winning the division. God I wish I were going this weekend.

It is still a little early to count anyone out who is 6-9 games out with over 40 to play, don't you think?

I think I officially declared the Cards dead when they were in 1st place earlier this season.

The Cubs are 69-46, the Cardinals are 64-53. If we go 24-23 to end the season, we'll finish at 93-69, which would mean that the Cardinals would need to go 29-16 to close out the season, a .644 winning percentage, to catch us.

They're also about to go on a 10 game road trip. We'll know a lot more in a week and a half. A sweep this weekend would break their backs imo

A sweep of the Cards this weekend (with Lilly/Z/Dempster going) would be pretty sweet, but alas I think LaRussa will have his boys ready to play because they know their season could be on the line this weekend. Sweep the Cubs and your back in the race. Get swept by the Cubs, and the Wild Card is your last beacon of playoff hope. Take 2 of 3 or lose 2 of 3, and you're not that far from where you are now.

For the Cards THEY have to sweep the Cubs to get some momentum. But I suspect the Cubs will convincingly take two of three from the Cards, in the process also gain a game or two on the Brewers, who I believe will lose twice to the Natspos.

But I do know that there will be ONE player who will want to go for the kill this weekend. I suspect you'll see Edmonds have a dang good weekend against the Cards.

Gentlemen, you have a chance to end the Cardinals season. Have at it.

The Cubs can probably not be concerned with the Cardinals any longer if they sweep them. But the Cardinals season won't be over regardless of what happens this weekend.

I doubt they'll sweep them anyway, but it sure would be nice.

Really anything but a Cards sweep is fine. Even losing 2 of 3 doesn't give much ground and keeps taking days off the calendar.

That said, I think they'll take 2 of 3. Too much good pitching.
