Well the Bears cut Tank Johnson because he couldn't stay out of trouble..I forgot who picked him up though..... ;)

And he hasn't been in trouble since.

As I posted earlier, Jerry is a very smart man. He realizes you need to talent to win, but at the same time you can't afford to have talent that you have to cut because they are always in trouble. At the same time, if you can rehabilitate those who are cut by other teams like Tank or Pacman, then you can increase the talent on your team without paying the normal costs it takes to get that talent.

Dallas has a whole department headed Calvin Hill to help keep players out of trouble. While the Cowboys of the 90's had their share of problems, since Quincy Carter, the Cowboys have done a good job keeping the current members of the team on the straight and narrow, and this includes those with histories from other teams. What's funny is everyone claims the Cowboys are a team of law breakers, but yet no Cowboy in recent years has had a run-in while with the Cowboys.

"The Dallas Cowboys Character Building Workshop"

Haven't the Bears had more players arrested in recent years than the Cowboys? :-k

The Bears cut arrested players. The Cowboys collect them. Gotta catch em all!

Yet they stay out of trouble in Dallas. So maybe instead of collect you should say rehabilitate.

Should probably let Tank and Pacman actually play a season before you say all that....

Maybe you should wait to see if they can turn it around before ridiculing a team for giving them a second chance....

or in the case of pacman, a seventh chance.

Or Tank Johnson...#5 (#4 if you don't count the whole "friend getting shot" thing)

Just seems like their teams weren't as proactive in keeping players out of trouble to me.

How can you say that, when they have barely been on the Cowboys at all? Jones hasn't played a game yet.

What were the Bears/Titans supposed to do that they didn't. Don't act like the Cowboys have this magic calming influence on cons.

Whether or not it will work with those two, I don't know. I do know that since 2000, the Cowboys are very proactive in this regard. They have devoted enormous resources and staff to helping keep players out of trouble. It isn't foolproof as you can't baby sit guys all the time.

But Jerry takes a certain approach with these type of players. He structures the contracts so they can be cut if they screw up. He then surrounds them with a strong group of guys like T-Newman, Brady James, and others who look out for them. And finally he devotes staff to helping them and keeping tabs on them.

Since this was incorporated, the Cowboys have had fewer problems and no high profile arrests. Does this mean Pacman will stay clear of trouble? I don't know...but I do know that he's more likely to in Dallas than with other teams. Tank hasn't quite played a year with the Cowboys, but so far, he hasn't given them any trouble either.

I'm optimistic they will. And it's still funny teams decry the Cowboys as a team of trouble makers when players in the past 6-7 years or so have not had legal problems while on the team.

if it works out for the cowboys, it's because these guys have gotten a wake-up call because they realize that one more misstep and they're out of the league. i doubt the cowboys are doing anything wonderful when it comes to giving them the correct atmosphere.

which is why I don't think Jones can make it another year without getting into trouble. he more or less told the league to eff off when it came to discipline problems and didn't seem to improve his behavior despite multiple fines and suspensions.

why dont you go back to the "how many wins will the bears get this season 4 or 5?" thread, we're trying to get ready for the playoffs over here
