Kinda frustrated that Z had to be shortened up to 5 innings today. I still don't understand why Z had to come in for the 8th inning last week in Milwaukee. The Cubs had a 7 run lead, and Z threw I think 103 pitches coming into that inning. Oh well, can't complain about a win.

Has Reed hit a meaningless HR yet?

FYI here are Reed's HR and their situation:

7th inning: 2 R HR off Juan Cruz to tie the game against the DBacks on May 11th

5th inning: 3 run HR of Sean Burnett in a already blowout game on May 23

2nd inning: 3 run HR of Doc Halladay to put the Cubs up 4-0 on June 14th.

8th inning: Grand slam off Rosales that provided the margain of victory against the D'backs on July 23.

5th inning: solo shot off Josh Johnson that temp gave the Cubs the 2-1 lead against the Marlins on July 25th.

8th inning: 2 run (and I believe the OFFICIAL GW HR) HR off Sean Burnett in the 8th on August 3.

All but one of his homeruns were either to tie up the game, give the Cubs the lead/add on to the lead or eventually won the game for the Cubs. So when Reed hits a homerun its' a "CLUTCH" homerun.

Did anyone else hear the Pirates' broadcast? I popped over for a bit of schadenfreude after Reed's HR, and it was hilarious. They are so bad.

To summarize and paraphrase, starting after Reed's HR:

---------------------------

Prolonged silence (through Sori's bomb)

More silence

End of the inning, top 9

even more silence

"Marmol's as nasty as the come."

silence

silence

"They're going to play that song again."

"I hate that song."

"it's annoying."

"Very annoying."

"We'll try to get out of here as quickly as possible so you don't have to suffer through too much."

silence

silence

--------------------

If pathetic has a sound, it comes from the Pirates broadcast booth.

I dunno if I would use the word CLUTCH to describe a HR that later turns out to be the game winner. Reed can't see into the future.

Actually.... the case can be made that Reed Johnson is our most clutch hitter this year........
