I think an Angels-Yankees ALCS looks quite likely. That's what I'd bet on, at least.

I'm going with Angels/Rays, because Rays are deeper, more talented, and better.

I still think they miss the playoffs. Their rotation after Joba and Pettitte is extremely questionable. The Red Sox don't really look that great either though, so who knows.

if MLB keeps approving these Veterans for Peanuts trades for the Yanks, I can see them surpassing the Rays. Tampa is in uncharted territory here, and a collapse down the stretch wouldn't surprise me at all

What?

I think both the Nady/Marte and Pudge trades clearly favored the Yankees

What?

Nady is a meh player having a good year, and the Pirates got a high ceiling guy for him. Marte is a generic pen guy, and Pudge is an old, meh catcher.

How exactly did they rob anyone?

Hasn't Mussina been pretty solid since his horrible April? Looked it up: 1.23 WHIP, 3.56 ERA, but a little high on the .282 BAA, although he doesn't walk anybody. Joba and Pettitte are good, but who knows if Joba will hold up the whole year. I think they've got as good a shot as anybody with the offense they have the potential to throw out there every night.

Most of the talking heads are saying the Pirates should have gotten more , given what other teams were asking for relief pitchers. There's only 2 things wrong with that though. First, none of those teams were able to move those relievers for the high price they wanted and second Tabata was pretty highly regarded last year.

As far as Pudge goes he has name recognition but it hard to imagine him as that much of a difference maker.

I think Mussina and Pettitte are both pitching over their heads, and both have gotten shelled recently. They should be decent enoguh, but as #2/3 starters? Also their 4/5 spots are a nightmare right now.

it's less about being a difference maker and more about the Yankees not having to go replacement-level at catcher (with Posada done for the year)
