La Velle and I have spoken to different Dodgers people who say they have no interest in Adam Everett. At least not in a trade. Team had a meeting this month to discuss shortstop options, and listed Cristian Guzman (before he signed his latest deal), Jack Wilson and Ronny Cedeno. Everett’s name didn’t come up.

Anything that would realistically help us?

Cedeno for Hu

can you explain this one a bit? I don't know much about Hu other than what a quick look at br will show you. Looks like through 40+ ABs this year, he had about the same performance in the same league at the same age as Ronny did last year. But at 22, Ronny did the same thing in the same league, whereas, at 22, Hu was OPS'ing .660 in the Southern League.

That .660 is a bit deceiving, as it marks the worst season of Hu's minor league career. Both before and after he showed an ability to produce at a decent clip for a shortstop, as well as hit for a high average.

As for the why, it's a matter of practicality, as Cedeno isn't going to get you Kemp or Kershaw obviously. Hu provides more consistent defense than Cedeno at a younger age, with a better minor league pedigree(Hu has been a well regarded prospect for more of his career than Cedeno, and better low level MiLB performance), and his skillset is more likely to transfer to the major leagues(he makes a crapload more contact, important considering neither are going to be sluggers). Plus, Colletti obviously doesn't trust him based on 100 ABs this year(his first real taste of MLB) so he's probably available.

Just give us a new water cooler to replace the one Zambrano demolished and call it a deal.

There's a shortage of quality shortstops across the league, it's a position most teams where many teams would like to upgrade. There will be high demand for Cedeno in the offseason, as he may be amongst the best availble SSs this winter. Like him or not (personally, I don't know how anyone could perceive his value to be near that of a water cooler), he's a pretty good trading chip right now.

I wasted some of everybody's time having this argument in the game thread. Cedeno's about as good as you can expect from a backup SS. Guys better than Cedeno aren't backup SS.

Ivan DeJesus' kid

Don Mattingly's kid

Andy Van Slyke's kid

Take your pick.

Jason Repko anyone?

is Van Slyke's kid with the Dodgers now? He was in the Cardinals system in 2006

Yeah, A+ in the Dodgers' system.

I'll take Saito. Or Broxton. Or Kemp, if you twist my arm.

I'll pass on Saito.

Dodgers placed RHP Takashi Saito on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 13, with a sprained ligament in his right elbow.

Saito is expected to miss at least six weeks with an injury that could bring an end to his career as the Dodgers' closer. Jonathan Broxton will try to fill his shoes.

Didn't Fonty play a respectable shortstop when we first called him up or am I dreaming? I know he definitely has limited range there, but if he can make the routine plays I wouldn't have a problem plugging him in there once every couple weeks.

I know, I know. Hes no worse than Cesar Izturis or Craig Counsell. Id take him over either of those 2 any day.

It would not be in our best interest to get rid of Cedeno right now. He is our best middle infielder defensively (it's not even close). Plus, his value would be a lot better in the offseason anyways.
