RHP Andrew Cashner and 1B Sean Hoorelbeke promoted from Mesa to Boise.

This one happened on Saturday but was never mentioned here: no surprise, but RHP Julio Castillo was demoted from Peoria to Mesa.

If thats the extent of his "demotion" he should consider himself a very lucky man. Is there any more news about the criminal charges on him?

That won't be the extent of it. I'm guessing he'll eventually get cut but for now, the legal matters take precedence.

The Bloomington Pantagraph[/url]"]A minor league pitcher accused of throwing a ball that hit a fan in the forehead during a bench-clearing brawl was charged with felonious assault, ordered held on $50,000 bond and directed to surrender his passport.

Peoria Chiefs pitcher Julio Castillo was arrested Thursday following a fight between the Class-A Chiefs and Dayton Dragons.

...

Castillo was arraigned by video from the Montgomery County jail on Friday and ordered held on bond. Dayton Municipal Judge Carl Henderson also required Castillo, who is from the Dominican Republic, to give up his passport.

“This charge is a result of outlandish and inexcusable conduct by a professional baseball player,” Montgomery County Prosecutor Mathias Heck Jr. said in a statement.

If convicted, Castillo would face up to eight years in prison and a $15,000 fine.

Dressed in jail blues, he stood with his arms folded behind his back and showed little emotion. He was flanked by his attorney and an interpreter. Castillo said he has been in the United States for a month and has been living with teammates in Peoria.

Defense attorney Kevin Braig had asked Castillo’s release.

“He is employed gainfully by the Peoria Chiefs,” Braig told the judge. “He has no history of prior offenses. I’ve been in contact with the club. This matter is being taken serious.”

Sierra gets the start for Mesa.

Another HR for Drew Rundle in Boise. Kyler Burke with a 2-RBI triple. Carpenter gave up 2 in the 1st inning.

Coleman with a meh debut for Peoria: 3.1 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K.

Chen had another solid outing for Daytona: 5 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 4 K.

Grant Johnson was good. 6 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K.

I'm really excited to see Kyler Burke starting to pull out of his season long funk... a double, a triple, a walk, and a strikeout tonight. He's brought his average up to .231 (it was around .150 a week or two ago) This is his 4th multi-hit game in a row.

Great game for Rundle too...3 for 3, with that HR and 2 walks.

Ascanio blew a 2 run lead in the 9th to a Blake DeWitt HR, but Iowa came back and scored 2 in the top of the 10th, which he held onto to win.

Pie is 3 for 6 tonight with a double, a strikeout, and a caught stealing.

His BA now sits at .288, despite that horrible start after his demotion.

I was one of those that wanted Pie to stay in Chicago and adjust. But his 2/31 start is now a small part of his stat profile. So he's hitting .300 in his last 200 AAA ABs? So what? Where does that even rank on this team?

Posted
Pie is hitting .385 in about 100 July PA's. I think that's pretty good even for the PCL.

I know. But how many other guys on that team have had a run like that? I'm just frustrated, I guess, at how all this transpired. The Pennant Race is great. But if Edmonds continues to be hobbled, or even for next year, are we going to do this all over again? Give him the job and then give up on him if he's 3/16 after four games?

And, ho-hum, Matt Craig got a chance to pinch hit in the 8th with the game tied and delivered a 2 run HR. That would be 4 HR's in 33 AAA PA's so far this year.

they should really be letting him play more.

I wonder based on innuendos and other rumblings if Pie may have been sent down for reasons other than or in addition to his offensive struggles.

I thought that was pretty much confirmed, wasn't it? Or was it just rumor? At any rate, I guess I could be thinking about when he got sent from Iowa to Arizona for that day or two.
