3rd straight CG win for CC Sabathia in his first 3 games as a Brewer. Wow.

Anyone know his PCs in those games??

Someone said 106 tonight I believe. I think he was around 115 in another?

106, 110, 122

Dusty told me I was close enough.

How come some 4-run leads are considered "saves" and some are not??

(there are some 4-run saves, right?)

If you start the 9th inning with a 4 run lead you can't get a save.

- If a pitcher enters the game in the 8th with the lead being 3 runs or less and pitches a scoreless inning and then his team increases the lead beyond save parameters, the pitcher can still get the save if he finishes the game.

- If a pitcher enters the game in the 9th with the tying run either at the plate or on deck and finishes it, he can get the save.

Add to that if a pitcher pitches 3 innings that there is a save. That is how there was a save in the 30 to whatever game last year.

If the tying run is on deck than it is a save situation. So bases loaded with a 5 run lead is would be a save situation

but you can't pitch yourself into a save situation

I was hoping the stupid Cardinals would at least work him a bit towards the end of the game today, because I really doubt Yost would have taken him out, being that he's an idiot and all.

So in 4 games, Yost is averaging 109 pitches with Sabathia... how long can the big guy last pitching 110 per outing??

Depends, how many cheeseburgers you got?

That home run sends Howry's ERA rocketing above 5. Good thing Wuertz was sent packing after 1 bad outing after not pitching for over a week.

Let me preface this by saying that Wuertz should be brought back up ASAP.

But he was sent down in large part because he hadn't pitched well since the middle of May. At some points in there, he had some strange usage patterns, and at other points he didn't. But he was pretty bad for about a 40 day stretch and his last 15 appearances in the majors or so.

How has he done in comparison to Howry in that stretch though?

Howry's allowed a lot less baserunners. Wuertz has the much better ERA. Howry has been very good at coming in with runners on. Haven't found how Wuertz has done in those spots.

Wuertz's ERA is really good because other people have come in and done a great job of getting out of his innings where he has let the first couple runners on. The last 17 outings he had in the majors, he was allowing over 2 baserunners an inning. You can't survive long as a relief pitcher doing that.

I wouldn't mind him falling apart in September.

Better than last year's October.

Wuertz has inherited 30 runners and allowed 9 to score.
