I was wondering how Pie has been doing lately because no one has mentioned him for awhile. He's batting .338 in July with 13 RBIs and 10 runs in 16 games. Seems like he might have found his swing again. I don't see a spot open right now to promote him to but its worth noting if an outfielder were to get hurt he seems to be ready.

Well the encouraging thing is that he appears to be back to hitting how he was even AFTER they worked with him on shortening his stride...Hopefully this enables him to have better success as a major leaguer. Edmonds is okay, but he could hit a slump again. Regardless, the odds that we'll want to go into next year with Edmonds as our starting CF aren't good.

Plus, Pie would be a nice bat/pinch runner/defensive replacement for the bench come October.

And now he's hurt.

what happened that really sucks if true

Hurt his leg/ankle sliding into second base on a double.

According to E.J. in the games thread it isn't a sprain and he should be OK. If so, whew!

Wasn't his 2005 trouble an ankle?
I believe so. If I remember correctly it was first thought to be sprained byt later discovered to have been broken. I don't know if it was the same ankle that he hurt this time.

Pie came in as a defensive replacement in the 8th yesterday and had an at bat.

...and struck out.

But at least it showed that he isn't seriously injured. I'll take it.

If Edmonds knee starts to be problematic, could Pie get a second try?
I think he'd be the logical choice. Perhaps a resumption of the Pie Johnson platoon.

To resume it would hinge on it existing for any prolonged period in the first place.

It'd be nice to count on good defense there every day

That's assuming Johnson is a good defender... and barring that one play, he really hasn't shown anything that would make me think he's anything other than mediocre.

On the other hand,, Pie is a fantastical defender.
