From the Idaho Statesman:

Third baseman Josh Vitters and shortstop Ryan Flaherty could return soon from injuries. Vitters rolled an ankle during the Hawks' weekend series against Tri-City. He is listed as day-to-day. Flaherty took batting practice for the first time since spraining his left hand two weeks ago. He also is listed day-to-day. ... Catcher Michael Brenly left in the second inning of Boise's 9-6 win over Everett on Sunday after being hit in the knee by a foul ball. Hawks manager Tom Beyers said Brenly was not injured and will not miss time.

Daytona News-Journal story on Marquez Smith:

"He was really close to starting the year with us, and I can certainly see why," Cubs manager Jody Davis said. "He swings the bat real hard and he's got great plate discipline. He's been outstanding for us."

Idaho Statesman story on Drew Rundle:

"I think I turned over a new leaf, being aggressive with the bat and things are working out so far, so I'm going to stick with it and try to ride it out," he said. "I kind of got my feet wet a little bit up there and they sent me back down here - they told me I'd be in the lineup everyday. That's all a player can ask for and I'm just trying to take advantage of my opportunities."

...

"He's made huge strides," Hawks manager Tom Beyers said. "You can tell just by the way he's swinging the bat."

JMAN (TP - poolside): Matthew Cerda - lots of upside? When can I get excited to watch Hak-Ju Lee?

Kevin Goldstein: Lots of upside? No -- hard to have lots of upside when you are 5-foot-9. He's a very good hitter though. Get excited about Lee, but he's probably not in a box score until next summer.

chico (Alphabet City): Vitters hasn't been in the boise lineup since friday... Any issue/reason to worry that inquiring minds should be aware of? Or should we just relax and be happy with his recent performance?

Kevin Goldstein: Relax and be happy. He twisted his ankle last week -- nothing serious, just some swelling and soreness and he should be back soon. If I was Will Carroll I'd have pictures and medical mumbo jumbo for you, but I'm not Will, so I can only say twisted ankle.

Today's the day for pro debuts (except Cashner  )...21st rounder (and $600,000 man) Logan Watkins pinch hit in the 8th inning and got a single.

BTW, Carlos Zambrano drove one of the Fitch Park golf carts around the place like it was a go-cart. It's lucky he didn't kill somebody (like maybe himself).

And RHP Dae-Eun Rhee has arrived at Fitch Park to begin his long rehab from Tommy John Surgery. So far he's wearing one of those custom TJS splints on his elbow, and a khaki-colored "We're Broke" t-shirt (with the picture of a bear with it's leg in a sling on the back) that the rehab guys receive when they arrive. (I'd like to get me one of those).

haahahahahahahah
