Listen, I'm not going to sit here and split hairs with you on the subject. You obviously are biased because you hate the Cards and that is fine, I understand that. I hate the Cubs just the same but at least am willing to give credit where credit is due.

Yeah, that or you don't want to admit when you are wrong.

With all due respect, the standings tend to agree with me. And when the regular season ends, that is all that matters. Not who over/underachieved or whatever else you want to call it.

I am sure they will, much like they did last year.

When the season ends, if the Cardinals are ahead of the Cubs are you still going to say the Cubs are a better team?

Nope, but I know that isn't going to happen. Your team will fall off at the end just like it did the last few years. Even the year you won it all you faded big time. That's what happens when guys who overacheive start to play back to norms, I doubt this year will be any different.

We will see, I happen to think it will be very close between the 3 teams with only a handful of games separating them at the end. I think the Cards and Cubs will be in the playoffs with the Brewers not making it because of their bullpen and horrible manager. Whoever wins the season series between the Cards/Cubs will win the division with the other taking the WC. That is my prediction. In the playoffs, and this is a big if, if the Cardinals get Wainwright and Carpenter back healthy. I think Carp/Waino/Lohse matchup VERY well with Z/Harden/Dempster and it would probably be a 7 game series.

Carpenter will not have an impact.

Agreed. I wouldn't expect anything from a guy coming back from a major arm surgery. It's going to be at least a year before he's back to being the pitcher he was before.

That's why I said IF he comes back :) He pitched a great game today in Springfield for though and has looked great in all of his rehab. Time will tell.

This is all I know:

Cubs best team in the NL, and prolly TOP 2/3 in all of baseball.

Brewers is a Top 5 NL team this yr, and should win the Wild Card.

Cards are like the Bad News Bears.

As mediocre as the Cardinals are, I'm not sure they'll lose another game the rest of the season

They can depend on Aaron Miles walk offs

Well, it's been a while, but if I remember correctly, the Bad News Bears won the championship didn't they?

Hey everyone. Cardinals fan here. Just wanted to say that both teams are having a great season so far, heck, include the Brewers in that as well. While the Cubs are the favorites I don't think it is anywhere near a given that the Cubs are going to win the division at this point. With ~60 games left for each team, each of us are one series win, or loss, away from being out of a playoff spot at the point. It's going to be fun the rest of the season but I don't think it's fair to say the Cardinals are lucky or it's some form of pixie dust that is the key to our success. We had a lot of "ifs" coming into the season and luckily a good portion of those have panned out. Carp has a rehab start going on as we speak and has looked good so far and Wainwright should be back soon as well so there is a certain level of optimism in St. Louis.

It's anyone's game right now, good luck to all three teams, (But mostly the Cards :hello: )

Also, Lilly is over-achieving with his lower than career average season.

Dude.. dont make dumb comments like this.. you sound like a homer that is making excuses. Any Cubs fan including me would love to 'fade off big time' and win a world series.

The Cubs are not exactly the 1998 Yankees. The Cubs are far from a team the Cardinals can't surpass. Nothing about the Cubs is scary. Your lineup can easily be pitched to, your rotation has two good pitchers then a huge drop off, and your bullpen is very suspect. The Cubs are a upper-echelon team in a league where no team stands out. The difference between talent levels of all three teams are very minimal.

Zambrano and ?

Dempster or Harden.....either way neither is a "huge drop off".

Zambrano and harden. I do not respect one year wonders like Dempster. He was nowhere near this good ever, nor did he ever show signs. A complete fluke. Same reason I have no respect for how well Lohse pitches. No matter how well either pitch, I will have no fear of them shutting down a team in a post-season game. Can it happen? Of course. But they are not world beaters. They are both mediocre talents having exceptional half-seasons.

The problem is alot of fans feel their team is better than it really is. I mean, the Cubs roster is not that talented. There are some very good players, and there are some really awful players, and some overachievers like any other team. The way Cub fans act, you'd swear they have a world-beater at every position, with 5 aces, and a Rivera closing out games. I understand good Cub teams is a rarity so you have to overcompensate when they finally are good, but some posters take it overboard. They act as if the Cubs are some unbeatable powerhouse, when sorry, they are far from it.

The Cardinals really [expletive] the bed down the stretch in 2006, but it wasn't a bad team. The playoffs are basically a crapshoot and most preseason projections had them as the clear division winners (eg, DMB):

NL Central W L Pct GB RF RA #DIV #WC
St. Louis 95 67 .586 - 781 664 85.5 4.8
Chicago 85 77 .525 10 735 704 8.5 26.0
Milwaukee 79 83 .488 16 736 746 2.5 7.3
Houston 78 84 .482 17 720 754 2.5 5.0
Cincinnati 77 85 .475 18 724 760 1.0 1.5
Pittsburgh 75 87 .463 20 706 765 1.0

Wait, Aaron Miles hit a walk-off homerun? You can't script that any better. That's the funniest thing I've heard all day.

It was a walk-off grand slam, to boot. Hilarity abound.

lol a cardinal fan saying he has no respect for one-year wonders

but counting on Ludwick, Miles, Wellemeyer, and Molina to keep it up

One might say the say the same thing about what the Card fans think about their team. The rotation that has little experience, and the hitters that lack it as well. Cards management is hoping that things will hold out, and if it doesn't then "ole well". Their thinking is that you already won the WS in 2006, so they aren't interested in spending money or giving up prospects now. The owner has already said that.

Do the Cubs have holes, sure they do, just as any team does. But most of our players have long histories that can be relied on, so you really know what can be expected of them. As far as your "deep" concern over Dempster, have no fear. If you watched the game today, he is doing anything but fading. If by chance he does, we have plenty other starters to fill in. He can rest up for a few weeks before the post season.

Besides, when we face the Cards we want our 3 lefties.... \:D/

If Chicago's lineup is easy to pitch to, you could pitch to St. Louis' with your eyes closed. If Chicago's bullpen is suspect, I don't even know how to describe St. Louis'. You say that the talent levels between the three teams is minimal, which isn't true -- the difference between the three teams' records is minimal, but the Cubs have the most proven talent of the three, and it's really not that close.

The Cubs are the best team in the National League from top to bottom, and I don't have much of a problem admitting that. I don't know why Cardinals fans -- the self-proclaimed best fans on the planet -- have such a hard time doing that. You can say it's because of the rivalry, but I don't see many Yankees fans saying "Nothing about the Red Sox is scary. You can easily pitch to Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz. That bullpen's a joke."

If I was a Cards fan, I'd be more worried about fighting off the Brewers than chasing the Cubs. This upcoming 4-game series is going to be huge -- if either team gets swept, it's going to be a big blow.

Yeah...Dempster...pssshhh! How many times was he an all-star before this year, like once? lol! To have a solid rotation, you need proven commodities like Looper and Wellemeyer.

"Pixie dust" and it's ilk are dumb phrases, using them shows a lack of thought put into expressing yourself or actually knowing what's going on.

That said, it's quite aggravating that everyone on the Cardinal offense save Izturis and Duncan is exceeding expectations. Pujols, Ludwick, Ankiel, Glaus, Molina, Miles, Schumaker, all of them overperforming at the same time is unreal.

Maybe they are just that good? Maybe the Cardinals didn't get more help during the offseason because they recognized the potential of their own players?

Just a thought.
