Any idea how long Rich is supposed to go tonight?

No pitch count mentioned but he threw fewer than 75 pitches last time in 5 innings, so I imagine 75 would be his minimum.

Sounds like a HBP and then an infield single caused by some infielder miscommunication with one out. Then a single to the gap to load the bases and an RBI bloop single to center.

A 5-4-3 DP ends the inning, though. 1 run scores.

Geez, Daytona's defense blows.

Hill is in a major jam because of a couple of poor routes or decision by his defense. Already 1 run in.

Oh snap, it's Jeff Samardzija Bobblehead Doll Night!

Rich gets a GIDP to get out of the 4th inning jam.

Again, I don't care how many runs or hits he gives up at this point (although I would like there not to be a long stretch of bad performanes). I am only worried about the number of walks/hbp/passed ball/wild pitches he gives up. As he gets closer to the majors, then I will worry about the rest of the numbers.

* Steven Singleton singles on a line drive to center fielder James Adduci. Wilson Ramos scores. Eli Tintor to 3rd.

* Garrett Olson grounds into double play, third baseman Jonathan Mota to second baseman Tony Thomas to first baseman Steve Clevenger. Steven Singleton out at 2nd.

Hill with a 4 pitch walk, his second walk of the game. Runners on first and second with one out.

He just gave up another 4 pitch walk, and has been pulled after 4 1/3 innings.

Hill's 5th:

-single to left on a 2-1 pitch

-groundball single to center as the runner goes, 1st and 3rd with nobody out

-Stolen base on a 1-2 pitch

-sac fly to right after a bunch of foul balls, runner holds at 2nd, tie game

-Runner at second is out at third on a stolen base attempt thanks to batter's interference

-4 pitch walk after a very lengthy delay that saw the opposing manager argue the batter's interference ruling for more than a few minutes, yet he wasn't ejected

-Coaching visit to the mound

-4 pitch walk

-Hill pulled

New catcher Robinson Chirinos has had a hard time hanging onto the pitches. Someone got up in the bullpen at the beginning of the inning. The broadcaster mentioned that he was just missing on a lot of pitches off the outside corner, although it was unclear if they could have been strikes.

And another walk. And the hook, Hill's night is over.

Rich still has some endurance to build up. Hopefully he can get on a more consistent schedule, but overall I think things were encouraging. He apparently tired towards the end.

I'm pretty sure (even though I'm listening while working) that the batter's interference just led to the runner returning. Hill pulled with the bases loaded and 1 out. Looks like Splendid Splinter has it the same way.

And Chirinos was awful.

Phelps lets all the inherited runners score. Fantastic.

Rich's final line: 4.1 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 6 K, 3 GO-4 FO

Well, I don't believe he has pitched in 11 days.

Edit: Realized you were probably talking about Phelps, who was on 9 days rest entering today's ballgame, instead of Hill, who was on 5. Sorry about that.

He was pitching on 5 days rest. He pitched on 7-12 for Mesa.

I meant Michael Phelps. He was pretty rusty, having last pitched a single inning on July 8th. He really got shelled.

Yeah, I edited too late. I realized that right after I posted it, but it took me too long to find the game logs for Phelps. Again, sorry about the confusion.

I gotta say, it'd be nice if they used a real catcher when a rehabber comes into town rather than a catcher who was a middle infielder a month ago.

In other news, the Cubs have teams that did stuff today.

Like Felix Pie hitting another HR. Mitch Atkins pitching a nice game. Michael Wuertz pitching and doing well (what a shock!).

Tennessee...didn't do so well. Let's move on.

Julio Castillo pitched well! Jovan Rosa now has 30 2Bs on the season.

Chris Carpenter made his Boise debut. Vitters is 1/2 so far.

Funny how Wuertz gives up a run or 2 on 3 months rest and its back to Iowa for him, yet Howry can seemingly give up a run every time he pitches, yet Lou always gos back to him.

Howry's been there before, dude.

Rich threw 85 pitches in this outing for Daytona, his previous two starts at Mesa were at 55 and 65 pitches.
