I would say not that good. Last Fall, he was considered a top 50 overall potential pick with a commitment to Oregon St and fell to the 6th rd. Between his injury to his non throwing arm and signability, he fell past where his likely demands would be agreed upon.

He'll go to Corvallis, pitch well, and likely become a 1st rd. pick in June of '11.

School offers are pretty common and included in many deals, espec. with the athlete headed to a 4 year school.

500K is a very good offer and probably a tough decision for him and his family. 6th rounder for 500K will get a letter from MLB/Selig about how much they went over slot.

threw a 1 hit shutout in substate and had 14 k's (7 innings)

got an email from a parent close to family just now and said offer was 600,000

I wish him the best of luck in that decision making, either way, he's in a position 99.9% of the HS baseball players would kill to be in.

I do have different and biased standards if I was fortunate enough to be a parent in that situation. I will say this, if he does go to college, he will be facing some of the best hitters in amatuer baseball on a weekly basis which help him progress.

i woud love to see him go to school, but that money would be tough to say no too...kid has presence you don't see in iowa schools

I'm in North Liberty but grew up in that area. most of my family went/goes to Starmont and I have several relatives that are good friends of his. I played softball against him and his dad for a few years as well, but I haven't seen either in probably 3 years

I must say that I would be surprised that the Twins would be the team to go that much overslot, usually they're one of the more slot-abiding teams in the game.

Saydel '87 here. And I love seeing the Iowa kids get picked also.

OT, It's kind of a personnal thing, but I played against Joe and Ben Blake( Two of Casey's older brothers) and got to know them a little bit, so I'd love to see the Cubs get him, just from a personnal perspective.

That was a few years before Benj Sampson's time, right? He married my old neighbor.

The name sounds familiar, but I don't really remember any specifics. I went into the Army right after baseball season and was travelling the world for the next ten years. I only caught snippets during that time.

From what I remember, each Blake brother that came up was better than the one before. There's one between Ben and Casey, but I don't remember his name.

It just proves my theory that nothing good ever came out of the Delaware County area.

(yes, I am kidding...I think)

I used to have some acquaintances from that area that I liked to razz about being yokels

I prefer to think of you Delaware County folk as a yokel-riff raff hybrid. I try to generalize as much as possible.

He was in the Twins system for a while. Got a few shots in the majors. Holds some dubious record (most consecutive appearances allowing at least 1 run, I think). Nice enough guy, from the few times I've seen/met him.
