Probably won't happen but just for kicks:

Theo Epstein denied that the Sox and Braves were discussing a Mark Teixeira for Kevin Youkilis and Craig Hansen trade.

Epstein denied the rumor to the Boston Globe, who had earlier reported that the Braves made the aforementioned proposal. They might not be discussing it, but Atlanta probably floated the offer as a possibility should David Ortiz not fully recover.

why would you trade someone cheaper, more productive, and under team control for a few years for someone more expensive, less productive, and will be leaving via free agency in a few months?

Tex is better than Youk.

WARP3, 2007-08:

tex: 14.3

youk: 15.8

they're a lot closer than most people would think. tex's career EqA is .302, youk's is .295. tex has more power, but youk will get on base a little more, play better defense and also offers some versatility in the ability to play third base. the difference in salaries, combined with the type of year each guy is having, make this a very poor idea for the red sox.

this is a trade that actually would screw with team chemistry.

Forget that, it would piss off the Red Sox Nation. You can't trade a fan favorite that puts up a .933 OPS outside of the 3-5 spots and puts up consistent quality defense and comes cheaper for longer. It would be lunacy. The replacement player would have to put up at least a 1.0+ OPS to justify the trade numbers-wise - and many fans would still be pissed off.

Youkilis sure seems like the kinda guy that if he raised his average by 20+ points that his ISOD would follow. His ISOD is 'only' 67 pts and his OBP has remained the same this year. Nice spike in power though.

Id rather have Youkilis than Tex for many reasons already mentioned.
