Cubs closer Kerry Wood expects to sit out the All-Star game because of a blister on his pitching hand. "We have the opportunity to take six days to let it get better and not deal with it the rest of the year," the Chicago Cubs closer said Saturday. "It's a little bit disappointing." Wood still plans to attend All-Star festivities at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday night. It was unclear whether he'll be replaced on the National League roster because the commissioner's office, as of Saturday night, had yet to be officially notified of Wood's injury.

That explains why he wasn't up in the 9th today (if it wasn't known already).

I for one am not saddened by the possibility of 7 days off for Kerry.

I just hope he can heal up in time for the second half.

Lou mentioned this in his post game. He mentioned Kerry wouldn't be in the ASG and would sit until after that.

Z will probably go 2 innings, but thats ok, he has about a 9 day break. Kerry not pitching is good, except it probably hurts the NLs chances some.

As long as they don't replace him with anyone from the Cardinals or Brewers bullpens, the NL should be ok.

Maybe this explains his struggles the last couple of outings. I don't recall him having any blister problems since 2002 or 2003, so hopefully this is an isolated incident. Several days rest is much more important than a sham save in the All-Star Game. :D

I feel bad for him, because he really deserves to be there. And selfishly, I was hoping he'd finish the game. But all things considered, the extended time off really is a good thing for him. I look forward to him dominating the 2nd half like he did the 1st half of the season.
