Boo, Vitters robbed of at least an RBI single by the second baseman making a leaping catch. He'll end up being 2 for 5 with the HR.

I am man enough to say I was wrong on judging him way to early. Would have still preferred either Porcello or Weiters, but realize that Vitters isn't horrible.

I didn't like the pick at the time of the draft either... but I hadn't rushed to judge him on a small sample size after last season and the slow start to this season. (Hell, I still refuse to judge Colvin as a bust) Do I get a "told-you-so" for the patience? Or do I get to have others mock me for doubting the pick?

Yeah, you can't really judge a HS talent, till at least 3 yrs after HS. If they haven't started to hit their potential, then you have to worry. College players, on the other hand, are on a shorter leash, IMO. College players needs to come out hitting, once they sign or, they are behind the 8 ball. While I most certaintly won't call Colvin a "bust" yet, I have doubts he'll be anything more then a 4th OFer, right now. I hope he proves me wrong, tho.

As for Vitters, how he finishes up this season, and how he plays next season, will determine his value either to the Cubs, or as a trade bait. Vitters could be, the LaPorta hot prospect for next yr's trade deadline, if Vitters continues to play like he has.

Raisin wasn't he quite young for a college draftee though? I thought I read that was one of the things that Wilken liked about him. He had the youth on his side and had faced a high level of competition.

He was 20 when he was drafted while most college juniors are 21 by draft day (of course his birthday is in September so he's not extremely young).

BA's PCL Prospect of the Day:

Prospect Of The Day

After an uneven half-season in Double-A, righthander Jeff Samardzija (Cubs) has now turned in three good starts in four tries for Iowa. Yesterday, the 23-year-old limited Round Rock to two runs on seven hits in seven innings. He gave up a pair of solo home runs, but aside from that he was just about flawless, striking out seven, walking none and keeping the ball on the ground, generating 10 groundouts and four fly outs. In four starts for Iowa, Samardzija is 3-1, 3.55 with 22 strikeouts, 11 walks and four home runs in 25 1/3 innings. He’s induced 1.58 groundouts for every fly out.

Good to see GO rate up once he was promoted, no doubt helped by his outing last night.

Love that K rate. Not often that goes up WITH the GB rate. That's the thing I'm noticing the most. BB rate could use some improvement and definitely the HR rate.

I know that. My point was college players have to adjust quickly, if they want to move up the system. And right now, Colvin is showing the development of a HS drafted player, instead the development of a copllege player, for which he is.

2B Dwayne Kemp to Boise from Mesa.

Missed this move earlier in the week.

A bit puzzling since he didn't really play regularly at Mesa - and from what I've read he may need to work on his defense.

Still, good to see the young Dutchman moving up.
