Do we still get credit for 8 all stars since he's only getting the nod to replace one of our own?
I think so. If I recall from the past injured players and their replacements all get recognized as All-Stars during the pre-game introductions.

i just want to add that i was sitting pretty close to the bullpen on saturday and that marmol looked awful warming up. he threw almost exclusively fastballs, and they were almost exclusively in the area of what would be the left handed batter's box.

granted, this information doesn't really mean a lot since i don't know what he looked like warming up when things were going well, but it helped make me look like a genius when i told people sitting around me that he looked bad and would probably suck.

Hopefully his inning in the All-Star Game can help him get back on track. That was a positive in an otherwise disappointing outcome.

Perfect inning in the All-Star Game, perfect inning today. Maybe he's over the rough stretch.

Time to stop pitching him in blowouts.

Actually I prefer that he be used in less intense situations until we are sure he is back up and running.

He hadn't pitched since the ASG, so he does have to stay sharp. With Kerry not able to go right now, you need to make sure that Marmol keeps his confidence up. To me today was a good outing for him. Demp finally got the road win out of the way, and Carlos got a bit of work.

No harm done. Now if the same thing were to happen tomorrow, then I would question it..

Not to mention the game wasn't a blowout at the time he started warming up and the decision to not pitch Dempster in the 9th was made. It became a blowout in the top of the 9th.

At which point 'Los was already warm and it would have been a waste not to let him get the work.

Exactly my point. Plus I think he needed an inning today to make sure he isn't rusty tomorrow if needed.

And it's worth noting that he threw all of 7, count 'em 7 low-stress pitches today. One figures he'll be okay to go tomorrow if needed.

And with Wood reportedly headed to the DL there's a good chance he'll be needed.

How many did AZ Phil have him down for?

Oh, has it been proven to everyone's satisfaction that AZ Phil can indeed count? If so, I too want to know....

at the least he has to have a tweak somewhere, his velocity is down and it's beyond obvious his slider doesn't currently have movement. there's also not as much of a velocity changes between his pitches.

One of the best things Dave Campbell said (while subbing for Brenly) was that Marmol's effectiveness has gone down as his pitch selection has shifted towards the slider and away from the fastball. Without using both, hitters can just sit on the slider.

Mark Riggins, do something for once.

According to FanGraphs, Marmol's use of his fastball has decreased over the past 4 seasons from, 48.2% in 2008 down to 38.4% in 2011, while his slider has increased from 38.2% to 56.1%.

Over that same time period, his fastball velocity has dropped from the 94mph to 92mph.

The biggest change is in his movement; while his slider has stayed pretty much the same, his fastball movement has gone from -7.2h/8.8v down to -5.6h/6.7v.

I was under the impression that at his best he was still an extreme slider user.

And it's a fastball that he can't even throw for strikes anymore (that's not just last night, mind you).
