Wellington Castillo, the best prospect no one talks about, has a HR for Tennessee. In about 50 PA's at AA, the 21 year old is hitting .333/.396/.535/.931.

Interesting he's already got more walks in 1/3 of the PAs at AA as he had at A. Fluke or just evolving plate discipline?

was just going to post this. let's not go overboard about his hitting, since he hasn't shown the ability to hit this well at other levels, but he's also fairly young for AA ball and is holding his own at that level. since catchers' bats develop late, it's certainly not out of the question that he could develop into a good enough hitter to start regularly at the big league level. it's looking like a pretty good bet that the combo of a decent bat with good defense can make him a solid backup.

I wasn't trying to imply that Castillo has turned some Sotoian corner. His defense and age alone made him a Top 30 prospect, and if he starts taking walks like this, hitting for average like this, or hitting for power like this, he'll be quite valuable.

Randy Wells giving Iowa their 2nd consecutive disaster start following Marshall's gem. 8 ERs on 7 hits in 1 2/3 so far.

Mitch Atkins is pitching well for the Smokies. 6 scoreless, with 6 hits, but a 12/4 GB ratio.

Daryle Ward commits an error at 1B, and Wells finally gets out of the 2nd.

2 IP, 9 Hits, 10 ER, 2 BB, 2 Ks, 68 pitches for Wells.

Vitters did single in his 1st AB.

my bad only 9 of the 10 runs are earned.
