Although gymnastics is an extreme example, many women's sports don't have quite the same age curve as men.

It's uncanny how often, around here, the local fans will get whipped up over some freshman softball or track-and-field star and dream of domination when she gets older, only to find out she peaked at 15.

gutierrez, a guy who looks like he should be playing in the special olympics, cleanly blocks an anthony 3 pointer as time expires, but gets called for the foul. there are like a few guys in the world who should be able to do that and some dude from off the streets, who rarely sees the light of day for the argentines, blocks the shot of one of the top players in the world. it must be nice having christmas in august.

these guys sold something to someone to be able to play like this.

9 point lead at half.

International refs are absolutely terrible.

blaming the refs already, are we?

I wouldn't be surprised in the least if this US team doesn't win gold. They've been embarrassed in international play more than once in the past. Losing to an "inferior" team would not be unprecedented.

i would be surprised, frankly. there is no "" about it, the US is a far better team than anyone in this tournament and it would take a very lucky and conversely, poor effort for anyone to beat them.

But couldn't you say that about the other "Dream Teams" that lost in the past?

Derwood, we get it. You hate the U.S. men's basketball team.

hate? no.

indifferent? yes.

that said, the US is going to have a tough time pulling away if they keep pretending to the the Harlem Globetrotters here. How many turnovers in this game on circus plays?

as I'm typing this, they're up to 17 point lead again, so what do I know

Stephen Strasburg struggled a bit, gave up 3 runs in 4 as Cuba ended up beating the U.S. baseball team 10-2.

If the U.S. can beat Japan tonight, they'll get bronze. Cuba and South Korea will battle for gold.

That's quite a lot of posts railing against the men's team, their personalities, their finances, etc. to be indifferent to the team.

This year's team is clearly different than previous year's teams, you can't seem to get over that.

Up 20 now on one of the two teams who have any chance at beating them.

railing against their personalities and finances? huh?

All i've ever said was that a team of NBA All-Stars doesn't (to me) embody the spirit of the Olympics. When did I go on any tirades about the guys individually?

not really, i wouldn't say that i expected the gold in 2004.

i try to enjoy the olympics, but my interest has waned to almost zero once they opened the floodgates to pro athletes. It's gotten to the point where I actively root against the US in Olympic Basketball.

other countries always allowed their pros. I don't watch the basketball but I would find it difficult to actually root against them.

I know it's not unique to the U.S., but that doesn't change my opinion about it. And no, it's not hard to root for Lithuania or Argentina to upset a team of multi-millionaire NBA hot-shots

Doesn't sound like indifference to me.

Second bold is what I meant about finance and personality. Rooting agtainst them because they are multi-millionaire hot shots.

The Gamecast thingy died on me after Chris Bosh grabbed a defensive rebound with 4 seconds left in the third quarter. Anyone want to clue me in on what's gone in the past 15 minutes (or is it still 78-64 with :04 in the 3rd quarter?).

The U.S. won 101-81.

Thanks. The Gamecast just reloaded to show 101-81 FINAL. That was great that it missed the whole fourth quarter.

i can't wait until this team dismantles spain in the final.

and i'm glad someone else noticed derwood's incessant posting about this team. you're not indifferent. you're either lying, or you don't know what the word "indifferent" means.

Bill Walton is senile.

He was on ESPN (the worldwide leader, don't you know?) complaining about the US team and how all the energy was sucked out of them when Ginoble (SP?) went down. I couldn't tell if he thought the dude played for the US or what. Anyway, a 20 point victory is a freaking blow out in my book. I didn't watch the game, but if he's complaining about only winning by 20 points that's a good sign for the US team.
