NBC5 was just showing the promotional video for Madrid's '16.

 

Looked like a Great Scott production.

Go Chicago.

 

I want to see Tokyo get it if Chicago doesn't.

 

I doubt they'll go Asia-Europe-Asia. Its time for the West to get it again.

Got jumping out of my seat screaming for swimming. I don't do that but maybe once every five years for any game I watch and its happened twice this year (Superbowl catch even though I don't really like the Giants or dispise the Pats).

We're just getting it. Yowza.

 

NBC's main coverage is pissing me off. There was this big deal made about how they got the Olympics to schedule Phelps' finals races in the morning Beijing time so they could show it live in the US and only the people on the stupid East Coast (and I assume Central time zone) actually get it live while we're stuck waiting three hours to watch it on tape delay. This despite Bob Costas claiming in the NBC studio "Coming to you live in less than 40 minutes, swimming". This is a pile of BS. Why couldn't they show it live everywhere in the U.S. Now you're waiting until 11 p.m. out here and you're inevitably going to lose viewers even though you could show it at 8 p.m. out here which would easily be the better time to show it. Not to mention that it would actually be LIVE if they did that. LAME.

Even better than the French losing the relay was that Benard lost his world record, too, broken by that Australian on the first leg of the relay.

The old 4x100 world record (that the US set yesterday) was 3:12.23 and the new record was 3:08.24. It took 20 years to make up the four seconds before that - the world record was 3:16.53 on Sept 23, 1988.

 

So sick.

Holy crap. There is a 32-year-old on the German gymnastics team. It's surprising when there are female gymnasts in their mid 20's, let alone into their 30's.

Even though I knew the results, that was still such a sick race. The end was the same thing as the women's 400m free where one person/team looks like they have the race locked up but fades in the last 50 and loses. So great to beat those stupid Frenchies.

i don't even know how much of it was him fading. he went out super fast and came back 4 seconds slower, but his split - 46.73 - was only a tenth slower than bousquet. nobody other than eamon sullivan (aus) and probably phelps swam a faster 100 in this. nobody who knows swimming really thought that the u.s. had a chance coming out of that last turn; if you watch the replay, dan hicks and rowdy gaines were pretty much giving the french the gold, u.s. silver and aussies bronze. people just aren't supposed to be able to split 46 flat.

 

as much as i'd like to bash bernard, i think lezak deserves all the credit for this. he swam the race of his life, maybe the best relay swim ever, in the perfect spot.

phelps broke the olympic record in prelims of the 200 fly this morning... only 1.7 seconds off his world record. that event is such a cruise for him, it's great. i think he saved a lot in the tank for the relay last night and will win the 200 free fairly handily tonight. 100 fly (crocker) and 200 IM (lochte) are his biggest threats at this point, IMO.

It's total Gus Johnson at the end. Awesome. I can't believe how excited I was for that. I barely even watch swimming, lol.
