Well in 1839 the University of Missouri was founded. Years down the road they added some sports teams, and they then set out to disappoint everyone in their fan base for years to come.

Illinois had no business winning that game with the way they shot and played in general, but good lord was that one of the worst officiating jobs I've seen in a long time. and I just loved the overrated chant at the end. Woo, you're now 1-20 against Illinois in the last 21. Go away you weaselly turds.

 

Perhaps I'm just frustrated after watching them play about as terribly as they possibly could. Gotta win 4 of the next 5 to stay in it now.

It was a real rough 10-year stretch for Kentucky going 263-83 overall, 120-40 in the SEC, winning five SEC regular season titles, four SEC tournament titles, advancing to four Elite Eights, two more Sweet Sixteens, and winning a National Championship.

 

And then compare 93-98 to 03-08.

 

That's it? That Tubby was worse than Pitino? What a revelation. You can't seriously expect any coach to duplicate that Pitino stretch (which, by the way, your stretch includes a National Title won by Tubby). It's completely unrealistic. Tubby wasn't as good as Pitino -- but UK kept with that theme in also replacing Tubby with an inferior coach.

 

Still, from 2003-08, Kentucky went 131-40 overall, 61-19 in the SEC, won two SEC regular season titles, two SEC tournament titles, one 16-0 (19-0 actually) SEC season, two elite eights and no first-round NCAA tournament losses. Again, it had to be real rough on Kentucky during that stretch.

 

Never said it was rough, it wasn't good enough though.

 

UK won't be as good as they were when I was there and I'm not expecting that, but they should do better than what they have rbeen ecently. Whether or not that can happen under Gillespie remains to be seen.

 

If anyone here can't see that that is message I'm trying to convey rather than judge every coach by the standard of Pitino is their own stupidity and not mine.

 

dude, when uk was up next on the schedule i as a louisville fan was always worried, not because its a rivalry game and anything can happen, but because tubby smith is a damn good basketball coach, especially when it came to bench coaching. talent can get you so far. coaching has a lot to do with it. so what if billy clyde can recruit, it doesn't look like he can coach worth crap right now, that's for sure.

 

i don't know much about kentucky basketball (other than most of their fans are completely over the top with out of this world expectations) but i do know that san diego and virginia millitary institute would never have happened under tubby.

Now the Purdue game is a battle for making it a race. Its obviously still early but if Purdue losses I don't see MSU giving up a 2 game lead and if Illinois losses it essentially becomes a two team race.

MSU has roadies at Purdue and Illinois

Purdue has roadies at Illinois, MSU,

Illinois has a roadie at PSU

Minnesota has roadies at MSU, PSU, and Illinois

PSU has roadies at Illinois, Purdue, and MSU

 

It's already a 3 team race.

Well, Christ, why not put in Bubba and let him shoot every shot? After all other guys weren't making shots, might as well let him try!! Why not just walk off the court? Nobody was hitting shots after all!! You're better off letting Legion and McCamey come down and chuck it every time than putting Jordan in to get any offense going.

I hope we win tonight. Won't be able to watch, I will be playing basketball against former cub great Brian McCrae.

 

That guy is a dick. I met him when he played for the Royals.

He sucks at basektball too. We beat hs team by 15 and that was with Greg Gurley keeping them close.

On a side note I hadn't realized how good Manny Harris has been for Michigan. I knew he was scoring didn't know he was rebounding and assisting too. He's 2nd in the conference in scoring, tied for league lead in rebounds, and 6th in assists. He should win BIg Ten Player of the Year.

 

Your team usually has to be, you know, good to win Big Ten POY.

If Harangody leads the Big East in scoring and rebounding again (he's doing both rather easily right now) and doesn't win Big East POY, I'll be pissed regardless of ND's standing, and I'd imagine the same applies to Harris and UM.

 

If Harris proves to be the best player, he should win the award. If not they should change it to conference MVP and be done with it.

 

That said, I'm sure someone will prove to be at least as deserving for a more competitive team.

 

Depends on who finishes where obviously. If Purdue finishes top 3 I could see Hummel or Johnson winning it. Johnson has been the best center in the Big Ten (16th in points, 11th in rebounds, 3rd in FG%, 1st in blocks). Meanwhile Hummel is still putting up very good numbers despite playing with a bad back and not practicing a single day since December. Plus he has the preseason player of the year going for him. People could vote for him because it makes them look good for picking him in the preseason.

 

Right now I would vote for Harris but there isn't a clear cut definite favorite.

i dont think you can be 16th in points and be BTPOY.

but, in actuality, i think the whole purdue team deserves to win it, and i assume that they will.

Agreed, actually on second thought I am going to give it to Matt Painter's mole in a tight race over Thad Matta's mole.

 

Cubbiebum, how about cause Robbie can't sniff Manny Harris. That a good enough reason for you? How about because he is less valuable to his team than Kevin Coble is to Northwestern?

Again Michigan sucks so that's why Robbie Hummel or JaJuan Johnson could both still have a shot at BTPOY....Harris is a much better player, but his team sucks just like Manning winning the MVP it matters how your teams doing and not just your numbers

I don't understand why they do it, but it's the way they are always picked...I personally think it should be the best player, but there team being competitive always is factored in
