It looks like Hill and Wells are the starters for Iowa's DH today, though IowaCubs.com says that Wells will start game 1 coming up in 30 minutes.

Condolences to Matt Murton, Jose Ascanio, and their families. Matt left the team to attend his grandmother's funeral, while Ascanio is back in Venezuela following the death of his brother and aunt.

wow, i figured since flaherty played in the SEC that he would automatically start out at AA.

Did you see somewhere that Reinhard is starting for Iowa today?

Tennessean.com"]The teams wrap up the five-game series with another doubleheader beginning at 11:05 a.m. on Monday morning. Left-handers Lindsay Gulin (2-4, 3.12) and Zach Jackson (1-5, 7.63) will pitch for Nashville to face Iowa left-hander Rich Hill (2-3, 3.91) and a yet-to-be-determined nightcap pitcher.

Now I don't believe that it's a day/night DH and Randy Wells is facing Gulin in game 1 right now, but I'd rather see Rich pitch at Iowa than fly to Cooperstown.

Iowa's web site. They have Hill slated for Wednesday with Berg tomorrow (that would Berg on normal 4 days rest and Hill 6 days rest).

SPOT ON: RH Greg Reinhard will be tabbed as the spot starter for game two of today's double-header. Reinhard just rejoined the I-Cubs from Double-A Tennessee in the Southern League where he was 1-2 with a 3.92 ERA and three saves in 23 relief appearances. He also made one appearance with the I-Cubs earlier this year and got a win in relief with a scoreless inning against Memphis on May 29th. Reinhard made 15 starts with high-A Daytona in the Florida State League last year and was 4-4 with a 5.40 ERA. He had a complete game shutout against Vero Beach on July 3rd, although the game was called after five innings. The 24-year-old right-hander was drafted by Tampa Bay in the sixth round of the 2005 draft out of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and traded to the Cubs with OF Andrew Lopez for RH Jae-Kuk Ryu on February 13, 2007.

I wonder why they're giving Hill a full week in between starts.

I'd guess the coaches will be working with him on the side.

the extra rest worked so well the last time they tried it.

but yeah, i'd hope it's because they're spending time fixing whatever the hell his problem is.

Maybe Hill is pitching in the HOF game today?

I doubt it. I'm thinking getting out of Des Moines might be tricky and not worth the hassle. He's listed as Wednesday's probable starter, that wouldn't be the case if he was pitching at Cooperstown today. Also something would have gotten out if he was pitching for the Cubs today - it would be bigger news than Jeffry Antigua and Yohan Gonzalez pitching at the HOF game.

Murton is on the inactive list? Why?

At his grandmother's funeral.

Reinhard gave up a single and two walks in the first, but got out of it on a 6-2-4-2 DP off a popup to short and out recorded at home.

Pie's 1st inning RBI double put the I-Cubs up 1-0 and moved his BA up above the Mendoza line.

The I-Cubs are pouring it on in the 6th. Pie began the inning with his 4th HR of the season for Iowa and later hit a 2-run single with the bases loaded. 6 runs are in and they're still batting.

No Cubs played in either game of the doubleheader in Australia. It looks like Hak-Ju Lee's time in Australia (he was supposed to spend a week or two) is over since he hasn't played in 3 games.

Des Moines Register"]The long, high, majestic home run Felix Pie clobbered in the sixth inning Monday provided a glimpse of what he hopes Chicago Cubs fans will see sometime soon.

He says he's feeling more comfortable at the plate, and three hits during an 8-4 Iowa Cubs win against Nashville in the second game of a doubleheader proves it — at least for now.

"I'm feeling very much better at the plate than I was a month ago when I got here," said Pie, who drove in the Cubs' only run during a 3-1 loss in Monday's opener.

"We have a great team," Pie said. "It's not just one person. Our pitching, especially, has been very good."

Pie homered in the sixth inning of the second game, and he drove in two more runs by legging out an infield single. He finished the second game with four RBIs - and five for the day.

"He still has a ways to go, but it looks like he's getting his approach to hitting back together," Iowa hitting coach Von Joshua said. "I'm seeing his confidence starting to build, and it was really good today to see him start hitting left-handers.

"That should be a big confidence boost for him. His swing is looking pretty good right now."

Pie became the seventh player the Chicago Cubs sent to Iowa this season because a .222 batting average doesn't cut it for a team built to win a championship.

He came to Iowa on May 16, and while his .215 batting average here isn't great, it's at least a start.

"I'm feeling great at the plate finally," Pie said. "I'm putting the ball into play, and I'm not striking out as much.

"Now I think I'm OK."
