could a three way involving the orioles net us . . . maybe brian roberts? ;)

seriously though, teams don't tend to give up on big name acquisitions too quickly (even if the hesitance is just to save face). What's the M's reasoning. (maybe I should read the article :D . . . on my way now)

Add Erik Bedard to the growing list of pitchers who could be available at the trade deadline. But the Mariners could decide to hold onto him for 2009 because they paid such a high price (Adam Jones, George Sherrill) to get him from Baltimore

Is he a FA after 08 or 09, can't quite tell? Seems he's probably a FA after 08, which would make the rumor a bit more valid, I suppose. In fact, it would be the face-saving move to unload him for a couple prospects to replace the ones you gave to have-then-lose to begin with.

We will have to pretty much match what Seattle gave up to get him which was a lot.

Not necessarily. They paid the price of a 3 era pitcher. He is currently a 4.5 era pitcher. I know his actually skills are probably the same, but his trading value is less now than what it was when the M's acquired him.

I don't think Bedard was ever going to be as good as he was in 2007 which is why a trade then seemed bad. He's not even close to dominating and you fear he's going to hit a wall at that 180 inning mark and that is your October guy? Plus who do we have that's as good as Adam Jones and Chris Tillman? Let's just forget about trading with the Orioles.

Um, Bedard isn't with the Orioles anymore.

According to the magazine article on him (I think it was the Mag) he's not married so I say yes he is available for the people interested (not me).
