Holy crap... Brenly was pissed.

Why?

Throwing all sliders out of the zone to Pierre after getting ahead 0-2. I was pissed too, it made no sense. Bob was pretty much saying Pierre sucks.

And that Kerry is stupid for throwing sliders miles outside the zone.

Yep, put it all on Kerry. Forget the guy who called the pitch

Yeah, I blame Soto or whoever was calling for it more than I blame Wood.

That's exactly what Brenly was saying! "Throw him fastballs over the plate, let him pop it up and go home!"

Oh well... Cubs win!

That's a lot of leverage at the end ... each red bar increased the avg blood pressure here about 20 points.

Our sham closer closed the deal, that's all that matters.

For the Cubs:

A. Soriano

R. Theriot

D. Lee

A. Ramírez

K. Fukudome

G. Soto

J. Edmonds

M. DeRosa

R. Dempster

Funny thing is that most Cubs publications say that Jim Edmonds' days as a Cub are numbered once Daryle Ward gets off the DL. Daryle BLEEPing Ward.

any truth to this?

Normally the hitting has been a bit more balanced, but not really tonight. Half the lineup picked up 9 of the 11 hits, 2 of the 4 walks, both home runs, and one of the 2 doubles. So thank you Fukudome, DeRosa, Theriot, and Edmonds. The first 3 especially were absolutely huge tonight.

And thank you Lou for using your bullpen pretty well tonight.

The Cubs could really use some blowouts though to not really overexert the short relievers. Marmol's the worst of them, but Wood and Howry are catching up to him. Hopefully the more frequent off days coming up can help relieve some of that pressure on the short relievers, and then maybe the Cubs will get to a point in the season where their workload won't have to be as much.

No, that makes no sense.

The bottom line is that the Cubs have picked up 1 game on the Cardinals during the first four games of the trip. Nice 3-1 start to the trip so far and a 3.5 game lead.

And Kerry doesn't get to nod or shake his head to Soto's calls?

Who cares now. They won.

Not unless Ward has magically lost a ton of weight and gained a bunch of foot speed. We're not going to leave Reed Johnson as the only CF on the team.

sounds like bob is gunning for a manager spot somewhere next season

I like his announcing and I don't like his managing very much, so he should stay where he is.

Well that was a fantastic finish to the game.

Some 400 lb B kept telling me to sit down in the 9th inning with 2 outs. It's not my fault you're so fat you're stuck in your seat. And that no one gives a rat's ass for the Dodgers to stand up in the 9th with the bases loaded. And that your section is dominated by Cubs fans. I made sure that B knew the score after the game...and the Laker score too. I think she was just pissed that the Cubs fans around me and I made fun of Dodger fans for booing whenever beach balls were taken away IN THE MIDDLE OF A TIE GAME IN THE 9TH INNING.

Ha, well it's true. He might as well have just come out and said it

I know. You gotta love Brenly. 8-)

No, you really don't. He's really starting to sour on me and I'm beginning to see why he was such a crappy manager besides the Schilling-Johnson year in 2001.

Just listen what he had to say throughout the 7th and 8th innings and you'll see what I'm talking about. I thought what he had to say about Pierre was humorous, but then I remembered the fact that he hardly criticized Pierre at all when he was here in 2006. Way to be two-faced Bob. You just gotta love that.

The Cubs' starter who has hit his way into a group with Chipper Jones, Lance Berkman, and Albert Pujols is...

Ryan Theriot - 4th in NL with his .330 BA. Didn't see that one coming.

That is some serious, serious grit right there.

I really wish people wouldn't complain about LOB totals.

It's a good thing. It's what happens when you have a high OBP team.

The Cubs lead the NL in runs scored. They're one off the MLB lead.
