The Rockies aren't going to do much of anything this year, and Aaron Cook isn't a terrible option. If Colorado decides to be sellers at the deadline (and why wouldn't they be?), could Aaron Cook be had for a reasonable price to shore up the rotation?

Cook would be an interesting, possibly cheap addition. I'd imagine he would be available. The Rockies have some decent young arms in Francis, Jimenez, Morales, and Reynolds. Corpas is still their long-term closer. That's the makings of a pretty good pitching staff. I'd imagine they could use a couple more arms. They're constantly looking for a CF, so Pie could be of interest to them, though I don't know that I would trade him for anything less than a huge upgrade elsewhere.

Wonder if they would be interested in a Patterson, Ceda, Veal package for Cook and Fuentes. I'd do my best to hold on to Pie and Gallagher, in case a legit #2 like Burnett becomes available. To me, Cook is a similar version of Ryan Dempster. Would stabilize the rotation, but probably no better than a 3-4 starter. Patterson gives them a potential future CF/leadoff hitter, and can compete with the huge logjam at 2B where they are trying to find someone to stick. Ceda and Veal gives them a couple more arms.

Pie for Morales :pig:

I like this idea, but he signed an extension this past offseason through 2011 with a mutual option for 2012. Plus, there's a nifty clause in his contract that bumps his salary up by $1m a year if he gets traded. I'm guessing the Rockies have factored him into their long term plans.

The Rockies will be doing no such things. There team is in shambles, but its do to injury, not a bad team. The majority of the core of this team wont be going anywhere any time soon, so theres no reason to get rid of there top pitcher simply because they ran into some bad luck this year. If we want to go after a pitcher, A.J. Burnett and Joe Blanton would probably be the best targets.

Do you really want Jim Hendry dealing with Billy Beane?

No to Cook for me. I think I've said this a number of times already, but in my opinion for the playoffs this team needs a guy who can miss bats, not another low K groundballer type. Preferably a righty who gets his swings and misses. I don't think the Aaron Cooks or Jake Westbrooks are the guys you want to blow your chips on when it comes to "The Curse."

Agreed. Which is why, options 1 and 1B should be AJ Burnett and Rich Harden.

I thought we already got rid of Mark Prior. Now we want him back?

So then why were they so terrible before the injuries occured? The injuries have been to their offense, not their pitching. Their pitching is horrendous.

And no thanks to Blanton. Look at his home/road splits over the past few years. Pretty ugly stuff.
