In the NFL they have the revenue sharing which helps make them profitable. Serious question here in that what does the MLB do that is unique and strengthens the structure of the league and its profitability?

An 81-game season, for one.

MLBAM would be a good place to start looking.

Your first assumption is incorrect. They have a popular product which today makes them profitable. When revenue sharing started in the NFL, the TV contracts were nothing like they are today.

Revenue sharing made them more profitable at first. Today, revenue in the NFL, for the most part, is irrespective of profit sharing. So, I don't think it helps make them profitable, per se. Watch for the owners of the higher revenue teams to try and keep a bit more of their money with the new contract negotiations.

One other thing: The primary TV contracts of the NFL are national. In MLB, they are local. National TV contracts are easier to divide up in profit sharing. (This is not an accounting issue.)

profit sharing/luxury tax is a total joke in the MLB, as there is no accountability as to where the money goes or how it's spent.
