Mets have 0 chance of a fire sale with their new stadium set to open next year. If anything, they might try and re-tool. If not for this year, then next. The only one they could look at trading would probably be Delgado, who sucks anyway.

I am enjoying them sucking. Watching them blow that division last year was fun. I pretty much loathe anything that has to do with New York.

They'll probably trade off their contract year guys, flukey guys they can sell high on, and low floor/high ceiling types who haven't been producing for them. I don't think they'll trade off their big names and prospects.

Delgado is the easiest name to pick on, but everybody knows he's done and they aren't going to get anything for him. Beltran is taking the brunt of the abuse from fans and media. It's starting to look a lot like the way Philly threw Abreu under the bus. He's treated the way Rozner treats Ramirez, the quiet, aloof, "non-leader" type.

I could see them looking to trade Beltran. He has been the most outspoken on the Willie issue. He's hardly a ticket seller who would be needed to fill seats next year. The Mets are Wright and Reyes, but moreso Wright. He's the star, face of the franchise, future, etc.

Wright, Reyes and Santana will be the guys who put butts in the seats and drive ratings, with Pedro as a potential added asset.

Depending on what it would take to get him, Beltran would be a nice option for CF.

Regardless of what Gammons said, I doubt the Mets punt and enter a fire sale. But if the Mets would do a deal where we send Marquis (which gives the Cubs salary relief), Pie, and another prospect (Ceda, Veal, or someone like that) to the Mets for Beltran, I would do it.

Do you really want Soriano's and Beltran's contracts on this team?

Sure, because Beltran is good and the Mets would almost certainly pay a chunk of it.

No, but what if the Mets picked up a decent chunk of it?

Speaking of making fun of the Mets, one of the most respected Mets blogs out there, MetsGeek, decided they'd had enough of the Mets after their performance at the end of last year and the beginning of this one. They decided a couple days ago they were going to follow the Rays now. They are now RaysGeek.

What if you used one to get the other?

Speaking of bad Mets signings, Martinez has got to be as bad as Beltran. They give the guy what, a 5 year deal without a physical? Even after Pedro had a history of injury trouble in Boston.

2005 was Pedro's best season where he pitched 200+ innings with a 2.82 ERA.

2006 he was hurt and pitched 130 innings. 4.48 ERA

2007 he was hurt again and pitched 28 innings.

2008 going into June he's hurt and has pitched 3 innings.

They've spent over $50 million on him so far with not much to show for it.
