Is anyone else concerned about the way the Cubs are playing at home vs. on the road? I just hated the "using Wrigley as an excuse" attitude under the Baker regime. Wrigley should be an advantage to our Cubs....so it's finally great to see us winning at home. But....the Houston series concerned me a bit.

Thoughts?

because of the way we lost those last 2 games. We should have won both, but we lost both instead. Yeah, I know, just bad luck. But I'm not so sure. I just hope we don't slip into the opposite mode...instead of hating our own ball park, we hate the away parks.

Anyway, maybe I'm just paranoid.

51-30 at home and 41-41 on the road would be nice. We could do better at home. . . . .could do better on the road as well.

You sure you're not thinking of the Pittsburgh series? The Cubs didn't lose the last two in Houston due to bad luck, they just got beat. The last two in Pittsburgh, we had the lead in the 9th and blew it each time.

Last Years Playoff Teams:

Boston 45-36

New York 42-39

Cleveland 44-37

Los Angeles 40-41

Philadelphia 42-39

Chicago 41-40

Arizona 40-41

Colorado 39-42

So it's not a necessity to be dominant on the road, but it obviously helps.

the cubs still have 106 runs on the road, versus 101 against. it's not like they've been getting stomped on regularly on the road. the poor away record is more a function of bad luck than anything seriously alarming.

You just accounted for 163 games in a 162 game season. :D

Every team is bad on the road right now. There are some very heavy splits in the NL in home/away records. Cubs are middle of the pack on the road. The only real bad series losses on the road have been Pittsburgh and Washington. Losing 2 of 3 to good teams like St. Louis (ugh), Houston (ugh), and Philly isn't terrible. They faced Cincy's top 3 on the road and lost also.

It bothers me that all the losses we had on our last road trip were winnable games, with either a sizable lead in the earlier innings or a lead heading into the bottom of the 9th.

I hate to say it, but if we would have just got beat that would be easier to take. But blowing two leads in the 9th in a row, and having 3, 4 run leads in Houston and blowing them. Difficult to handle that crap.

He's predicting an extra road win in a one-game playoff to finish the season.

Nick (Chicago): Do you make much of a team's record away from home? The Brewers lead their division with a sub-500 road record and the Tigers also lead their division with an outstanding road record.

Joe Morgan: I don't as much as some people do, and that's because it depends on how you play at the time. Regardless of where you're playing, if you play poorly you'll lose, and if you play well you'll win.

The leads in Houston were 2-0 and 3-0. Neither is a sizable lead, especially given how early in the game those leads were.

Yeah, that's it. As a result of the coin toss the Cubs had a choice between two home games or one road game, and they chose the road game. The Cardinals beat the Brewers, then the Cubs beat the Cardinals 4-0 (behind a no-hitter by Marquis and a grand slam by Edmonds) to win the three-way tie breaker. :D
