Found this on someone's blog at Foxsports on trades that he thinks should happen:

1. New York Yankees get Ted Lilly. Chicago Cubs get Hideki Matsui or Bobby Abreu.

Why New York does the deal: Kei Igawa is awful, I mean unwatchably awful. Ted Lilly is mediocre at his best but even mediocre is better than awful. Matsui has been one of the Yankees only reliable hitters but the bottom line is that he's a DH on a team with too many DHs. Odds are that list of DHs will grow by one since it's likely that Posada will be back hitting before he's ready to throw, meaning the team will utilize him as their full time DH. That would, in turn, relegate Matsui to a bench role. Matsui has a full no trade clause so the Yankees may use Abreu here instead of Matsui

I don't think I would make the deal unless the Cubs can find two reliable starters from Gallagher, Hill, Marquis, Lieber, and Marshall. Lily has pitched better lately and eats a lot of innings.

I can see why the Yankee's would do the deal - but I can't see why we would. Where would Matsui OR Abreu play? The last time Matsui played CF was 05 and Abreu has only played 21 games there his entire career.

Unless Fukudome decides he wants to shift a position we wouldn't have anywhere to play either of them. Furthermore our offense (despite our display last night) is already potent. There is no reason to trade something from our weakness - pitching - to get something for our strength, hitting.

It would be really hard to deny that trade, even though the Cubs already desperately need another starter and this would put us two behind the pace.

Well, the obvious up-side is that then it would make the matsui-fukudome comparisons so much easier for all the announcers on fox/espn.

we're already thin on front-end pitching, so let's trade our #2 starter to add to our league-leading offense.

the person on foxsports needs to think about the trade from BOTH sides, not just one.

So this guy sees Matsui as a DH, yet proposes trading him to an NL club?

the deal is being written entirely from the Yankees POV. it's best just to ignore it

+ 1 million

- Ted Lilly is mediocre at best?

- Matsui should be a DH, so he needs to go to a NL team?

Yanks have a crowded OF and would lopve this deal. We're trying to strengthen the rotation and this trade only weakens it.

Priorpower, on a side not, I've got pit tickets for Radiohead tonight \:D/

Change Ted Lilly to Jason Marquis, and consider it a done deal.

change "hideki matsui or bobby abreu" to "turd in a paper bag" and it's still a done deal.

The Yankees would probably think they're giving up too much.

Is that blogger a complete dum dum? He goes on and on about how Matsui is a full time DH player now yet has an NL team trading a decent starting pitcher for a guy who can't play the field well anymore. Anyone else see the contradiction in this blog????

Sounds like your typical East Coast based writer who believes the rest of the league exists solely to supplement the Yankees and/or Boston with missing pieces.
