In high school the fastest pitcher I ever faced threw 75-80 and I could hit weak grounders (I beat 1 out for an infield single...I'm gritty). So I said foul one off b/c I thought they were just throwing fastballs.

In a softball league for work, one of the guys on our team was a former ML pitcher (LHP, mostly relief for the Marlins for several years). I've played catch with him a couple times and every once in a while he'd throw a curve/slider playing catch and I wouldn't even get my glove on it from probably 50' (this was after an arm injury ended his career, he was probably 29 at the time). I've seen him do this to other guys too and it's hilarious - he once threw a guy a knuckle ball and damn near hit the guy in the face. Ergo, if an average ML pitcher was throwing all his stuff from the mound, I'd look absolutely foolish on 3 pitches, unless I kept the bat on my shoulder and coaxed a walk (I'm 5'7" - not a bad strategy).

weak grounder right back to the pitcher for me

The Lenny Harris special.

I haven't swung a bat in a long time and my back is pretty messed up, so I'd probably strike out. Although I'd like to think I could at least put it in play.

Honestly, I'd probably strike out, as would everyone else on here who hasn't played in forever. You're kidding yourself if you think you'd be able to pick out a slider or curveball without having seen live pitching in years. I'd expect the fastball and end up swinging at a 45-foot curveball.

I abstain from voting until "cower in the fetal position in the batters' box and cry like a little girl" is an option.

It's not that bad. There's a few guys who I wouldn't want to get in there against though. As a lefty, Randy Johnson would make me pull a Kruker.

If I got unlimited pitches and could just sit on a fastball, i might be able to bloop a single somewhere

If I got nothing but low-movement fastballs, I could make contact of some sort and probably hit a fair number of singles.

I'd probably hit .020 if they threw me nothing but breaking balls, and that would be lucky. And I'd look really stupid when someone threw me a changeup.

Say a line of .100/.120/.150 if just the FB, and close to 0 otherwise

What I really want to know is how I would bunt against real ML pitching. It looks so easy, it was so easy when I played, and I have no way of guessing how much harder it would be.

(this assumes I was back in my baseball practice and could still swing without my ankle injuries)

The pitcher would have to be Jamie moyer or someone who could barely throw 80. Hitting a curveball or a change up was not that hard for me it is when someone throws a really fast fastball then I am completely screwed.
